Hello everyone... Will gladly comply with the request that we post our Crawfords. Please forgive the length, but the more info, the more chance of finding cousins. Glad/sorry to know that I am not the only one having trouble finding ancestors. I used to joke with my cousins that James Crawford was hatched, since we couldn't find his origins. James Crawford born ca. 1746 (possibly in Virginia) married Elizabeth England (b. 1752 in VA)in Surry Co, NC 1769. Both died in Limestone County AL in 1825. [It is believed that the father of James was John and that the family lived at one time in Pennsylvania, then moved to Virginia, maybe lived in the Scots-Irish community in Augusta County VA] James & Elizabeth had 13 children: John b 1770 Sallie b 1772 Moses b 1774 Elizabeth (Betsy) b 1776 Joseph b 1777 Vineyard b 1780 this above group was born in Surry Co NC then Jesse H. b 4/27/1784 (my ancestor)somewhere in NC then Colby b 1786 Casander b 1788 Rachiel b 1790 Mary Elizabeth "Polly" b 11/11/1793 this bunch was born in Pendleton District SC then Samuel b 1796 somewhere in SC and finally Russel J. b 9/8/1798 in unknown location. ****** Jesse H. Crawford married Hanna (believed to be Hanna Warren b 1788) and they lived in Alabama, Tennessee and possibly Georgia. Several of their children were born in Greene Co AL. Jesse died 1863 and Hanna died 1866. Son of Jesse H. and Hanna was Simon Bolivar Crawford b 1827 in Greene Co AL. He married Elizabeth Ann Baysinger (b 1830). They married in Rusk County, TX 6/29/1848. Son of Simon Bolivar and Elizabeth was Jesse Crawford b 1851 in Nacogdoches Co, TX. He married Martha E. Scogin (b 1855)in Nacogdoches Co. Jesse died in 1877 from an accidental gunshot wound. Martha died in 1945. Son of Jesse and Martha was Robert Simon Crawford ( b 1876 in Nacogdoches Co.) He married Mollie Anna Hunt ( b 1880). Robert died in 1940 and Mollie died in 1977. Robert & Mollie had a son, Alton Parker Crawford (b 1904 d 1990)[my grandfather] and two daughters, Mabel Lucy Crawford and Dorothy Dean Crawford. If you connect in any way with this family, I would love to hear from you. I too just lurk in the background on this list. But I read every posting hoping to find my elusive ancestors. My grandfather ELMER ELLSWORTH CRAWFORD was the son of STEPHEN ANDREW CRAWFORD. Karen, How lovely to see a Co. Antrim Crawford posting, even if old and likely to be difficult to trace. I was reading all these "who read's...", and concurring with the general sentiment (yes I read, but never get a match), when yours popped up. I had almost hit the delete key when "Antrim" caught my eye. Anyway, I personally am from Co. Antrim N.I., as are all my Crawford ancestors beyond living memory. In my tree I have a William Crawford b.1777, d.1840, m. Ann Gardner. They had the following children: John, Nancy, James, Elizabeth, William (b1810) [all descendents in N.I.], Ann. I can't be 100% sure of my dates as this info came from research by a fairly distant cousin, but I should be able to get closer some day if I ever get time to seriously work this all through (seems like it will never happen!). Anyway, we could have the same William with slightly incorrect dates, or we could have cousins - the latter being very likely as just about every generation of Crawford I know has a William (I have a brother William, my father is William etc. etc.). Anyway, I'll keep your e-mail on file and perhaps log the details into FTW in case we get a link later. Seeking information on the Amos WILMOT b 3 Mar 1802 perhaps in Broome Co. NY, son of Jesse WILMOT and Hannah BUNNELL. It is possible that he is the Amos WILMOT who married Rebecca CRAWFORD, daughter of John and Persis STOWELL CRAWFORD of Bainbridge, Chenango, NY. She was likely born about 1802-1810 in Bainbridge, Chenango, NY and died about Dec 1862, place unknown. Rebecca Crawford Wilmot lived sufficiently distant from Colesville, Broome, NY that her sister Persis was notified of her death by letter. I need to determine the identity of the Amos WILMOT who married Rebecca CRAWFORD and information on their family. Rebecca was the sister to Persis CRAWFORD who married William PIKE of Colesville, NY (my great great grandparents). Thank you for any hints no matter how small. I wonder if anyone has heard of my Ellen Crawford, b. 1792 of TN, d. 1857, Garlandville, Jasper Co., MS. She married Aaron Rayner Sr. of NC in 1809 and had 9 children as follows: Aaron A. Rayner 1810 Thomas C. Rayner, 1812 Nancy Rayner, 1815 Solomon (Saul) Rayner, 1817 Zedekiah Carr Rayner, 1818 William Rayner, 1821 Bryand Rayner, 1827 Ellen Rayner, 1830 Ras Rayner, 1831 I don't have any information on her parrents or siblings. I'd be happy to hear from anyone who might know anything about her. Thanks, Brady Allan ballan@earthlink.net
I, too, have been reading the posts. I had thought that my ancestor was the only one with no ancestors. I now see that we are not alone. I have posted several times, but maybe there are new people out there, so I'll try again. I am looking for a family for: Jefferson Davis CRAWFORD, born February 1862 in Alabama. (I have not found him in 1870 or 1880 census.) He married Zilpha Adeline "Addie" BEAVERS on September 4, 1884 in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama. They moved to Lamar County, Texas prior to 1889. I would also like to know about this family from 1880, does anyone recognize? In Lee County, Alabama Census - 1880: J. W. Crawford 64 SC head M.E. Crawford 46 NC wife J.D. Crawford 18 Ga son Fannie Crawford 8 Ga dau W.H. Hill 46 Ga son-in-law Mary Hill 21 Ga daughter Emily 9 Ala g-dau James 2 Ala g-son William 11 Ga g-son J.D. is the right age to be my Jefferson Davis. This census says he was born in Georgia. The 1900 census says he was born in Alabama. We all know how accurate all census records are! Can anyone put names with the above initials? Thanks, Winnie Tidwell

Hi! I am still looking for my elusive gggrandfather, John Elburt Crawford, born 1859 in Marianna, Jackson County, Florida (according to LDS records submitted by his wife). He was married to Jennie Shiver in 1885 in Jackson County and moved to Wakulla County, Florida. They may have also lived in Thomas County, Georgia at one time. They had the following children: Henry L. Elburtie Beatrice Dolly Thomas Peter Earnest Jennie Lee John died in 1924 in Wakulla County. Records show from the funeral home the name "Z" Crawford as his father, maybe a first initial of his name or nickname. Would love to find this Crawford family. Census records show he said that his father was born in Florida and his mother in North Carolina. Thanks for our help! Tracie Crawford
HI, Crawfords, specifically I'm looking for information about Alexander Bell Crawford and his predecessors. He was born about 1765 in the State of Maryland if my information is correct. He married Ellen Owens and they had four children, Robert, Betsy, Henry, and Alexander Bell Crawford II. He died in 1836 in the State of Maryland. I have no more information about any of his children except ABC II, who moved to Carlisle, Kentucky and died there in 1876, TIA for any information regarding this Crawford Line.
Thank you to all that responded to this message and let me know my posts are read. Tho those of you who responded they have not helped, sorry about that, I haven't been helped either... However, I have responded to some queries I posted a few days ago, hoping there will be a lead in one of them. I have one more post from this book to do in a few days. To my dismay, the counties I need are not included in it. If anyone has a Zilla, (also spelled Zillah , Zilley & Zealla), with her father John Crawford, please, please let me know. I "just know" she had siblings and a mother, but who were they, what happened to John and where were they from before Texas in 1837?. And to those that have not posted their Crawford line, please do so, it just may include a clue we need. There were and are Crawford's galore out there, surely there is a link to ours somewhere. My best to you all. Wanda
Hi, This is my Crawford family. Albert Edward is my great grandfather, he had two daughters, Gertrude Margaret and Marion. James Crawford b: Abt. 1829 in England married Julia Amar/Aymar b: Abt. 1830 in New York. Three children that I know of: James H. Crawford b: Abt. 1860, Albert Edward Crawford b: June 04, 1865 in New Jersey, and Julia Crawford b: Abt. 1867 1870 Census - Page 56 - 4th ward of Jersey City, enumerated Aug. 23 James CRAWFORD age 40 occup. Am.(?) Gas & water pipe--value of personal estate $15,000 b. England - Parents both foreign born Julia wife age 30 b. NY James son age 10 b. NJ (ages at last birthday) Albert son age 5 b.NJ Julia daug. age 3 b. NJ Margaret DANIELS age 18 b. England (No clue as to relationship but listed with them.) Street Directory: James Crawford living at South 7th St. (Knight & Crawford) - Also living at that address were Abygal S.Combe (40) Maggie Combe (20) and Annab Combe (17). Albert's birth record only list his father's name and date of Albert's birth. The census with Margaret Daniels - is this a sister, boarder, any relation? The street directory - are the Combe's relatives? Is Margaret Daniels the same person, Maggie Combe? Is this who Gertrude Margaret was named after? Any help here would be greatly appreciated! Is anyone searching in NJ or NY? Sue in TN
I do read this stuff. But it depends on the Subject line. If the subject remains something of non interest (although the message could be -- but I would not know that)-------like this one that was sent to the group. It had the subject as "Re: Does Anybody Read This Stuff?"---------In actuality it was a query about Crawfords. From the subject I would not know this. So if you want people to read this stuff--make sure you put an appropriate SUBJECT heading. Thanks, Debbie
I read it too. It hasn't helped me in the least but I continue to have hope! Sue in TN
