Hi fellow Crawford researchers, I am attempting to unravel my early ancestors. My 5 great grandfather, Thomas Crawford, immigrated here from North Ireland between 1780 and 1800. Recently, I located a biography of one of his grandsons (below) that gives general information on the family's origins including 4 brothers of Thomas Crawford who immigrated to America at an earlier time. Does anyone recognize the Crawfords described below? Thanks, Rebecca Commemorative and Biographical Record of Harrison and Carroll Counties Ohio p. 208 Excerpt from a biography of Rev. Thomas R. Crawford, Doctor of Divinity born March 8 1820 New Athens Ohio Minister of Nottingham Presbyterain Church for 40 years. "The ancestors of our subject fled from Scotland in the seventeenth century, during the Covenanter Persecution [1650-1670], and settled in the north of Ireland. HIs father, Nathaniel Crawford [s. of Thomas and Jane], at the age of sixteen years, together with the household of which he was a member, emigrated to the United States just at the close of the Revolutionary War. Three brothers of the grandgather [Thomas] of Dr. Crawford had come to this country at an earlier period, and were in the Revolutionary struggle. The fought on the American side, and a fourth brother was a captain under Lord Cornwallis on the British side. The three former lost their lives in battle at different periods during the warone of them, a colonel of an artillery company, fell at the battle of Bunker Hill; one lost his life in a skirmish on the Hudson River, and the third was killed at the battle of Saratoga..." >From the Virginia State Library Colonial Records Project Survey Report No. 04908 page 2 copies of letters from Cornwallis to various officers Item 16: To Turnbull. Hi, I will try to answer the numerous questions I've received in the past few days. The Crawford Exchange is alive and well, just got off the track longer than intended due to various causes that don't really matter now. When I first discovered it in 1997 and called to subscribe, I learned that the editor Mr. Wilton Whisler had just published his last issue and had been asking for several months for someone to keep it going. I couldn't bear the thought of it ceasing publication just as I was finding it, and after it having been in publication for nearly two decades. Being the impulsive creature that I am I jumped in with both feet, got one issue published and have been sputtering ever since. Over the past few months I have received a number of contributions for the up-coming issue in the form of family charts, stories, old letters, census information and queries. With my computer and myself up and running again, I am attempting to have the next issue ready for mailing within the next few weeks. I apologize for the delay, thank you for your patience and interest, and vow to not stop til the next issue is in the mail! As you may or may not know, The Crawford Exchange is a format to publish and exchange information gathered by all of us - anything of interest relating to the CRAWFORD surname. It is subscribed to by several genealogical societies and libraries, including the LDS Genealogical Library in Salt Lake City, so has quite a wide circulation. Membership is $15 for two issues ($7.50 each if you prefer to order single copies) which includes the right to submit information for publication, including unlimited queries. I would encourage everyone who'd like to, to include with your membership request, at least a basic family chart or names, to let everyone know who you are, where you come from genealogically speaking, and who you are looking for. Remember to include your mailing address. JUNE CRAWFORD SANDERS PO BOX 671 JANESVILLE, CA 96114 (530) 253-3489

Sue, I have this Crawford family from Armstrong County, PA in the mid-1800's. Could it be the same Margaret? MARGARET CRAWFORD, b. 1837 is buried in the William Crawford Cemetery in Brady's Bend, Armstrong Co., PA beside her husband ADAM PETERS. Known children include: Sidney, Nancy Jane, Jemima, Abraham, Edward, Levi [1869-1957], William, Adam, Maggie, and Martin. It would be logical to assume she married about 1860. Are we looking for the same bunch? Looking for a connection of CRAWFORDS to CROFOOTS. Wm CRAWFORD, b. NY, Md Eunice, b. PA. Issue inc. Kelley R. & Kate M. both b. PA. Wm listed in Cherry Valley Twp., Ashtabula Co., OH in the 1880 OH census. He listed as age 50, Eunice listed as age 45. These CRAWFORDS attended some CROFOOT family reunions in Lake Co., OH. CROFOOT reportedly was a corruption of the name CRAWFORD. Are these CRAWFORDS in your line? If so I'd love to hear from you. My grandmother's maiden name was CROFOOT. Elsie <elsieb@interlaced.net>
