Does anyone have any information about the origins of a Thomas Crawford who married Mary Evans on 11 December 1753, Prince Frederick Winyaw, South Carolina? I have been told by one correspondent that this Thomas Crawford was born in Hanover County, Virginia in 1737. However, that report seems to be in error, at least as regards the year of birth. Thomas Crawford's marriage to Mary Evans was his second marriage. He had 4 children from an earlier marriage to Lucretia, surname unknown. His first child was born in about 1742. Any help would be appreciated. Dale M Crawford (dmcrawfo@aol.com)

--------- Forwarded message ---------- Date: Thu, 24 Jun 1999 10:48:27 -0700 Subject: Crawford in Mississippi > SUCCESSFUL LINKS. Charlotte Ramsay <cramsay1@aol.com> I discovered that my great-great-great-grandparents were buried in the Welch Plantation Cemetery in Copiah County, Mississippi. I posted a query on the Copiah County query board and received an e-mail from Bob CRAWFORD, new host for Copiah County, asking if I had any connections to a Caroline CRAWFORD WELCH, daughter of James Clausen CRAWFORD. I told him yes, my great-great-great -uncle had married Caroline CRAWFORD WELCH. Caroline is Bob's great-great-great-aunt and he had been corresponding with a WELCH who had a lot of family information. Bob gave me his name and address and, because I have an uncle living in a nearby town to him, I called this uncle and gave him the information. My uncle gave him a call and went to visit him. We discovered this WELCH is the cousin of my grandfather, deceased in 1986, their fathers being brothers. He and my uncle have become friends and visit in person, on the phone, and by mail. This cousin, 92 years young, has told my uncle stories of our family and has given him many original pictures of our ancestors. If it were not for Bob Crawford and RootsWeb we would have never heard these wonderful stories or seen these great pictures of our ancestors. This has meant so much to all our family and we cannot thank you enough. RootsWeb opens doors that otherwise would remain closed forever.

Opps -- forgot to include the local. We were definitely in Chester, SC by 1900. One family source places Robert Bryson Crawford's birthplace in Lanarkshire, Scotland; another has him born in Chester. Beyond that, I'm stuck. BTW - as Crawford is a sept of Clan Lindsay, and Clan Lindsay maintains a genealogical database, does anyone have a URL for Clan Lindsay, USA? Thanks! Rob

My husband received a double "whammy"--he is a double Crawford from five generations removed! Since I am new to genealogy research, I don't have much but would like to have any help you can give. William Crawford was my ancestor -- could have been born as early as 1775. Family tradition says he was Irish. He was in Virginia at the time his known five children were born: 1) Nancy H. Crawford, b. 16 Feb. 1801, marr. Rev. Harvel Bray -- went to Missouri and on to Calif. during the Gold Rush of 1849; 2) Josiah Adams Crawford, b. 9 July 1810, marr. Athens Co., OH, 12 Sept. 1833, Hannah Watkins, dau. of Wm. & Hannah (Dew) Watkins -- 1838 removed to Vermilion Co., IL; 3) Isabella Crawford marr. Daniel Wyman, Logan, OH in 1834; 4) Jane Crawford marr. Joseph Shuler, Logan, OH in 1835; 5) Samuel J. Crawford -- nothing further known. William Crawford fought in the War of 1812, don't know where in Virginia he lived or who he married. William and family removed to Hocking Co., Ohio in 1823. Would appreciate any information, clues or ideas to pursue. Josiah Adams Crawford (my ancestor) married twice and had 14 children. Would be happy to exchange lots of info on his family.
