Ford Hello to all Crawford Researchers, My name is Cathy Phillips from West Virginia and I am researching the "App" and Mary Crawford family from the Greene and Rockingham county areas. Their daughter Sarah Jane born March 24, 1867 married Morias Jordan Hansbrough in Rockingham Co., VA. It is not that I am not interested in my Crawford line outside the USA, I am among those researchers who have run into a brick wall and have not been able to go back any further. I am not even sure what my great great grandfather's name is for sure. "App" is surely a nickname. I keep information on all Crawfords in hopes of eventually connecting up with one of the families. 1. Getting Crawfords across the pond
    2. My Crawfords were in NC before 1800, and I can't get them out of Rutherford Co., NC. I'd just love to get them back across the sea, but need to identify the immigrant first. I've just about decided that roots is really a literal term in my family. I think some them just sprouted from the ground on the East Coast, and the Crawfords are among those lines! Ida

    1. New to the list -- searching CRAYFORD from Kent, England
    2. Brenda & Gary Anderson
    3. Hi Listers, I'm looking for information about the CRAYFORD family of Kent, England, specifically Mary CRAYFORD, born 1840 and married on 25 Dec 1858 to John KNOWLES in the parish church at Maidstone, Kent. They left London on 1 March 1859, and arrived in Lyttleton (Christchurch), New Zealand on the 11 July 1859. They settled in the Wairarapa. Mary's parents were Thomas CRAYFORD and Mary TREE. I've found a Thomas Goward CRAYFORD born 1810 in West Farleigh, Kent, who may be this Thomas. Anyone researching CRAYFORDs from Kent? Brenda Anderson Masterton, New Zealand.

    3. Dear Crawford List, i'm sharing with you an e-mail i received in regard to a cemetery in AR. there is at least one Crawford, Wm. Crawford, who is buried in this cemetery---but even if there were none, we should rally to preserve any historical site that is threatened--especially a cemetery!! Thank You for your concern! judy Dear friends and cousins, This is a copy of messages which sort of explains problems we're having in AR. Would each of you please send an email to the attorney, whose email is at the bottom of this page. 3. This was sent to me and I would like to forward to the list in case there is someone out there would be interested. Wanda p.892-893. HENDERSON, LEE, BLAKE, CRAWFORD, SNODDY, WICKS, PHILLIPS Henry HENDERSON, trustee of Lincoln County, was born in the Twenty-first District of that county in 1825, and is the son of David and Elizabeth (LEE) HENDERSON. The father was a Virginian and was of Scotch extraction. In 1806 he came to Lincoln County, and was among the pioneer settlers of the same. He was in the war of 1812, was wounded in the right arm, which rendered him a cripple for life. About 1814 he was married, and afterward located in the Twenty-first District, where he died in 1857. He was a tiller of the soil and at the time of his death owned upward of 1,100 acres of land. The mother of our subject was born in North Carolina in 1800 and died November, 1871. They had ten children, only four of whom are living: James, Sandy, Henry and Daniel W. Our subject was reared at home and received his education in the public schools. In 1855 he was elected surveyor of Lincoln County, and served in that capacity until 1876, with the exception of a short interval during the Rebellion. In 1858 he married Mrs. Sarah (BLAKE) CRAWFORD, daughter of William CRAWFORD. Mrs. HENDERSON was born in Lincoln County, Tenn., in 1827, and by a previous marriage became the mother of four children: Delia F. (wife of Pleasant SNODDY), James E., W. B., and Annie (wife of G. D. WICKS). By her last union was born one child, Victoria May (wife of Thomas PHILLIPS). In 1861 Mr. HENDERSON bought 285 acres in the Nineteenth District where he has since resided. In 1876 he was elected county trustee, and at the expiration of his term was re-elected, and so has continued for five successive terms. He is a Democrat in politics and a member of the Masonic fraternity, being a Royal Arch Mason. He is a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church South, and his wife is a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. He was major of the Second Battalion, Seventy-second Regiment of the Fourth Division of Tennessee Militia for three or four years, being commissioned by the governor of Tennessee, and was first lieutenant of a company in said battalion for a number of years.

    2. Dear Friends,The following was forwarded to me and I found it wonderful. I realize it has nothing to do with researching genealogy, however, life is too short to be completely serious all of the time (besides, it has to deal with our past, so it sort of counts as genealogy). I won't say how many of these things that I can remember. ~Claudette ****************************************************************************** ***** You're not old unless you can remember: Being sent to the drugstore to test vacuum tubes for the T.V. When Kool-Aid was the only other drink for kids, other than mild and sodas. When there were two types of sneakers for boys. When boys couldn't wear anything but leather shoes to school. When it took five minutes for the T.V. to warm up. When all your friends got their hair cut at the kitchen table. When nearly everyone's mom was at home when the kids got there. When nobody owned a pure-bred dog. When a dime was a decent allowance, and a quarter was a huge bonus. When you'd reach into a muddy gutter for a penny. When girls neither dated nor kissed until late high school, if then. When your mom wore nylons that came in two pieces. When all your teachers wore either neckties or had their hair done, everyday. When you got your windshield cleaned, oil checked and gas pumped, without asking, for free, every time. And you got trading stamps to boot! When laundry detergent had free glasses, dishes or towels hidden inside the box. When any parent could discipline any kid, or feed him, or use him to carry groceries, and nobody, not even the kid, thought a thing of it. When it was considered a great privilege to be taken out to dinner at a real restaurant with your parents. When they threatened to keep kids back a grade if they failed - and did! When being sent to the principal's office was nothing compared to the fate that awaited a misbehaving student at home. When women were called "Mrs. John Smith" instead of their own name. When cereal boxes actually had good toys inside EVERY box without having tosave box tops from a dozen boxes and then mailing them in along with $20.00in shipping and handling.
