Marc, I have Tyrone County Crawfords, but they are much earlier than yours. My link goes through Aaron Crawford, b. 1677 Co. Tyrone, who married Agnes (Wilson) and immigrated to Massachusetts in 1713. They ended up in Rutland, MA, where they are buried, and their descendents comprise the Rutland/Oakham Crawfords. I have info linking Aaron back to Kilbirnie, Scotland, and back to the 12th century, which I will post/link to if people express interest. Hi again, This may or may not work for most folks, but one idea i have tried to use is this. Consider a date 186?. This tells us it unsure. 186+ tells me after 1860 186- tells me before 1860 Consider a census information; I bet you may like this, there is census info already in this database, as well as marriage. Try this, Search Option, Search Email Address, Type in 'ResourceCensus' in the Search for box. Click the Search button. This will bring up all Census info in the database. If one were looking for Census data in the Country of US, try Search Option, Search Researcher, type in 'US' and click the Search button. Next, say one was looking for the state of Florida, type in 'US, FL' and click the search button, finally if one was looking for the county of Walton, type in 'US, FL, Walton' and click the search button. Now naturally all states and counties have not been entered yet, but they can be, the options are available. Hope this is not too confusing yet, but i will try to simplify as i go on. This is one idea, open to others, Good Luck again, Mark Floyd
My Crawford ancestor is Lemuel Crawford born about 1812-15 in South Carolina, died March 6, 1836 at the Battle of the Alamo in Texas. LEMUEL,mind you, not John, James, or Alexander. Do you think I can find out anything about him? I haven't yet! I have been told that he might have had brothers named Evans and Merriman, but I haven't found them either. Sigh..... M. Aaland
The date problem was one that I had also. Earlier today I just left it blank, but intend to go back and edit my entry, add the date and make a note in the comments that it is 'abt, bef, etc' Janet ----- Original Message ----- From: <DEB7019@aol.com> To: <CRAWFORD-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, October 03, 1999 6:34 PM Subject: Re: Crawford Database - one more email . I am looking for info on Margaret Ann "Peg" Crawford born 1825. She lived in Horry Co. and married John A Johnson. children of Margaret and John: M E b 1841 Willie b 1850 Matthew John Quincy Sarah Martha b 1845 Elizabeth b 1847 Margaret Savannah b 1857 Dorcas Lenora b 1860 any info would be greatly appreciated.
I have searched all the suggested sites and can't find much help for a lone Nova Scotian, Crawford. --
Just a quick note on this database, Suppose you were looking for Elizabeth Crawford, OK Elizabeth can be a first name, a middle name, or shortened to Eliz, right? To search this database for all these possibilities, simply do this: Choose the Search Full Name option from the Search Select box. Type in the name Eliz in the Search For Box, Last Click the Search Button. This should give you every single person in this database with the name Eliz somewhere in their names. I hope you can apply this to other possible names such as William, Will, Willy. The options are unlimited here. Good Luck with your research,, Mark Floyd
Hi fellow Crawford Family reseachers, I am Mark Floyd. I have been working on the database at: http://www.cobnet.com/webBase/crawford since Jan. I would welcome anyone who would like to help with this project. I am sorry that some find it hard to use, but would like any help in educating folks on how to use this database. This database is meant as a starting point, to help you locate others who may be looking for this individual or possible web sites, or books, census or any other source for a certain individual. It is not perfect, still is being updated. It does work though. I have not had any problems finding data or researchers. I think what makes it difficult is lack of any help pages. I have been trying to get there, but my schedule has prevented this. I intend to make them as soon as possible, but do not see this happening in my immediate future. If anyone would like to help with this project, they would be gladly welcomed, anylong with comments, suggestions, or ideas. I have been trying to enter information to the database, but have probably near 2000 names still to be entered. I can not keep up with both data entry and perfecting the database at the same time. I would love it, if someone found some time to just enter the information that Wanda has collected for us all. She has given us termindous resources and i can not keep up with her. It does require, that you check to see if the new person is already in the database, before adding them as a new individual, this takes time. The current system, posts individuals in alphabetical order, then by date, however if someone enters a person as ???? for a date and later edits this date, it does not currently reorder the person. I am working on this so please bear with me. The simplest way to work with this database is like so: You should select the type of search you would like to do: such as: List Alphabetically, then type in a letter, name or whatever you wish to list, last you must click the Search button, to get a listing of the names in the database. If you happened to hit the enter key, instead of clicking the Search button, it may come back with Sorry, there are no persons listed by this name. You can also get this error, if you click the Search button, at the same time someone else is adding or editing information to the database, simply click your Back button of your browser and try again in a min or two. I apoligize for lack of help, but i am working with this. I hope this to be a useful tool for everyone. It is a work in progress and no information that is entered should be lost in any of the upgrades. I can try to post other help here to the list until i can get something else started if everyone likes this. Hoping to help, Thanks, Mark Floyd
Good evening all Crawford researchers, On my Washburn line, the list owner Chuck Washburn said in his post. "I would like to make a "call" out there on this list to recognize all those who are, being a 12th generation Washburn descendent. This would put in perspective the lineage numbers across the board by the numbers of Washburn branches that are represented here. I think it would be very interesting to ALL of us to find out just how many of us there are...what to you think ?? We would be making "a sort of historical" account of a pioneer family, like ours, participating in such a study...does this sound interesting ???? Are there any takers ???/ This really did the trick. That list was filled with info about the 12 th generation down to the writers. Could we do something like that with the Crawford crowd. I can't help much, because this is all I have on the Crawford line: William Crawford b. 1722 ,VA, d.1782, OH, m 1742 to Ann Stewart. Anne Crawford, b. 1743, d. 1784, m 1759 to James Connell. b. 1742 in Winchester, Frederick, VA, d 1776. Is this worth a try. ??? Pollyanna in Cincinnati, OH.

Couldn't find the most common of names, etc. BUT, I had failed to check out the pull-down menu to chose which field I wanted to search on. I was keying in SAMUEL while the type of search was alphabetical. As soon as I selected "FULL NAME SEARCH" it worked perfectly. I can't think of a single search option that you would ever need to add - they're all there! I am sending this because I may not be the only person who overlooked this very important field on the search screen. I would like to know if it is possible to delete or move a person I accidentally linked to an erroneous parent. The only other question I have is regarding estimated dates. I wish we could put in dates such as "abt. 1822" or "bef. 1860". I would not want people to use some of the "approximate" dates I have entered without knowing they are "approximates". Thanks for your foresight and all your hard work. I hope all the Crawford researchers will support this database and not spend the extraordinary amount of time it would take to start yet another one. Lastly, I am willing to enter some data into the data base. Please email me what you need entered next. Hi All! Here's a ready-made place to use for all your Crawford information and Queries: http://resources.rootsweb.com/surnames/c/r/CRAWFORD/ Click on GenConnect, left side of the bottom line, where it says "Navigate this Page", then click on what you want to look at/post to. I think you will enjoy! Gloria in MD
Several people have listed places where they found CRAWFORD files. Does the listowner have a webpage or other place where we can send gedcom files that will make one large database of just Crawford related families? I am willing to contribute a gedcom of my limited Crawford information to a cumulative effort, but know nothing about the suggested places where one can contribute. Is it possible for someone to make a webpage with a genealogy program on it to which we can simply upload gedcom files? I'm assuming this would require permission from the distributor of the program. Also, has anyone contacted the owners of these websites that have been suggested to see if they want us to send information? Margaret Scheffler Marc McCune wrote: > > > The database at http://www.cobnet.com/webBase/crawford/search.pl already has thousands of entries. I would suggest that everybody who hasn't done so already, enter your Crawford information into the Crawford Webbase. We can refine it from there. Granted, the Webbase isn't a real relational database, but a good place to start. I like Maxine's idea that such a true database, we could key on multiple keywords and match birthplace, D.O.B., parents names, etc, etc -Marc McCune
I am looking for anyone related to Samuel Alexander Crawford born Nov. 13, 1834 in IL. He died April 1926 in MO. He had two children Henrietta and Margaret.

Again, before someone goes to work on a CRAWFORD database..........check out: <http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Estates/5646> This site already has about 3000 Crawford names entered with dates, places, spouses and reasearch links. Happy Hunting Everyone. Chris
I agree this is a good start. And it can only get better and bigger if we all will put our data in this. If more of us participate, then maybe it can grow to include more categories... But I believe that participation is going to be the critical factor... Deanna Deanna ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com
If a standard form were decided on, it would not be hard to incorporate new information with a minimum of typing. Material could be simply placed in a database which is searchable (I don't know how to do that) or into a table in html form- which most wordprocessors can do. some suggested fields: First name Last name (for spouses) Location State date type of record information contact/submitter name
I lurk in the background waiting for something to connect to my line on Crawford L, but so far nothing. Bronwyn of NZ's letter has stirred me into asking this. I am hoping that the descendants (not ancestors - I have all these) of Alfred Galen Crawford will be reading this. Alfred Galen C. came to Australia in 1875. His brother Hiram (my Greatgrandfather) was already here. Alfred Galen was born to Galen Allen and Alvira (Noyes) Crawford in Oakham Ma. on March 21 1847. I have a list of his children in Australia. There was one girl, born in the US, who stayed there and married H. Dollman and moved to Ohio. I have not made contact with any of his descendants and would dearly love to. Hoping someone knows someone etc etc. Regards from down under. Bronwyn, can you contact me please regarding your Crawfords. I would be interested to hear your line. regards Denise Marriott McMahon Brisbane Queensland Searching -CRAWFORD, NE Victoria, USA, Ireland, Scotland HAEFFNER, NE Victoria, Germany HALL, Victoria, England MARRIOTT, Victoria, England PINNER, Tasmania, Victoria, England
Dear Bronwyn & others, RE: What is the situation with American Crawford research? Do you have difficulties being able to find links from USA back to Scotland, Ireland, England? If so , for what reason? I have noticed that American listers only seem to discuss Crawfords in USA etc. What has happened to listers from the rest of the world? --------------------- I don't know how it was done, as it was researched by a Crawford family organization in Utah, but here is my Crawford line coming in from Kilbirnie, Scotland in 1600 - John Crawford.
