    1. Crawford/Lackie(Lackey?) Connection-is there one?
    2. Patricia A. Whitney-Jones
    3. Looking for info on my grandfather, Jean CRAWFORD Lackie. Would anyone on this list know anything that relates to my grandfather? I just wonder where my grandfather's middle name CRAWFORD came from? Sounds like a family name. I wonder was it? And if so, was it from the father's side or mother's side? My g-grandfather's name was John Lackie (spelled Lackey in one document) and all I know about him was he was b. November 1859 in New York, NY. According to the census he was married once before his marriage to my g-grandmother, Luvena (?) M. Lavigne. My g-grandmother was born in VT and her parents were French Canadian. My g-grandparents were m.1891 in Waterbury, CT. They had 3 children that I know of (have a picture). Jean (my grandfather), James, and Mary. John Lackie had another child, Mamie, from his first marriage. She was b. December 1880 in New York, NY. My maiden name was Lackie and it has been my most difficult name to track. Beyond my father, John Robert Lackie (b. March 12, 1916 Boston, MA; d. July 13, 1981 in Newark, DE), I have very little. My g-father's name was Jean CRAWFORD Lackie (b. May 1892 in Waterbury, CT). He m. my g-mother, Irene Winona Sandiford, September 21, 1915 in Fairfield, CT and left her around 5 years later. The story is (according to my father's cousin, with whom he was raised) that Jean (sometimes called Bobbi/Bobby) worked at a newspaper (CT or MA), met and ran off with a senator's daughter. When he left my g-mother she had given birth to 4 children (2 were twins). They died, the second youngest died of smallpox, and then my dad, who was the oldest, remained as the only child. He was raised by an aunt while my g-mother went to New York to work. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. 3. I, too, am searching for the parents of Jefferson Davis Crawford. I wish I could help you, but my Jefferson Davis Crawford was born about 1862 in Alabama. He married Zilpha Adeline Beavers in Tuscaloosa Co., Alabama, Sept. 1884. They traveled West to Lamar County, Texas, had two daughters, Viola and Mattie. If anyone has any information on a Jefferson Davis Crawford, surely it would be one of our ancestors. Good luck in your search. His age is shown as 33. His parents were John Crawford and Marion Riddell both deceased at the time. His brides (Mary King) parents are shown as William King and Isabella Grieve. There has been so alot on the line recently about a Crawford website for everyone to submit information to. I am also researching a Shifflett line and there is a Shifflett Website which was started by Julia Crosswell in Texas and it is great. I have submitted info to this line as well as many, many others and by doing this we are connecting with many cousins. If someone is going to start a Crawford website and wants to look at the Shifflett website to see how it works, please check out the following address http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Hills/4575/index2.html

    3. Looks as if each state has it's own marriage registry. I tried going to http://www.genexchange.com/us.cfm then clicking on a state name. That took me to the state exchange which listed things available to search (i.e., baptismal records, birth index, cemetery/burial index). It appears that the information here is based on individual submissions so would not be complete for any state/county, but you never know where you're going to find what you need so it's definitely worth a look-see! Thank you Maxine.
