I have been doing on line genealogy search since last January. So I am no longer exactly a novice, but neither am I an expert. However, I think if people want real help, they need to do several things. First they need to say what they have already tried. Then they need to tell more about the family members in question. Place of birth, death, or where they lived for much of their life is a start. Next it always helps to list all the names in the related constellation of family members, which may not always give you a direct answer to the question but it helps to bring to you people with knowledge. I would also recommend to any of you unfamiliar with him, Robert Ragan and his Treasure Maps http://www.firstct.com/fv/tmapmenu.html. Mr. Ragan will for a small donation--I gave $15--send you all his newsletters which are packed with tips on how to use the internet to to get specific information on your family. I am still working my way through his emails, which continue to come irregularly every month or two, and I never fail to be pleasantly surprised by new information. Another one for you folks, A helpful hint for the database on this area: http://www.cobnet.com/webBase/crawford When you get to the database, select the Search Option of Search Surname of Spouse, then type in the name Ewing in the Search for box, finally click the search button. There are 2 Crawfords in the database that have married a person with the Surname of Ewing. Simply click either name and more information will come up on this individual. Hallie Crawford Stillwell is an icon around Texas' Big Bend Country. Hallie was born in Waco, TX in 1897 and died August 18, 1997 in Alpine, TX. She married Roy Stillwell in 1918 in Marathon, TX. Does anyone know what Crawford line Hallie is from? While much is known about Hallie, not much is known about her genealogy. Kindest regards, Don Crawford donc@pyramid3.net
Hi All... This is my first post to this mailing group and I am in hopes of getting some new leads, as well as meeting some new cousins. Thanks to Sally, I have my 3rd piece of information about my husband's family. Now, I would like to know how to find out the migration of my Crawfords. The excerpt below is what I am working with........ Henry F. and Sarah J. (white) Crawford, the latter being the second wife of Henry F. Crawford. He was born (Henry) August 9, 1809, and died November 11, 1885, while she (Sarah) was born April 5th, 1842 and died in January, 1915. The paternal grandfather, a native of Virginia, moved to Ohio, and there he reared his family, and died. Henry F. Crawford left Ohio for southern Illinois, when he was eighteen years old, and located in Wayne County, where he was first married. If anyone has an idea of a method of search, or information about my family.......PLEASE let me know. THANKS SO MUCH Pam (still yet another) Crawford Idaho

Helen I found in my Allen Co Ohio Atlas of 1875 at reference to Wm Crawford the Indian fighter. It says that my Crawford relative, "David Crawford of Bath Twp, Allen Co, Ohio was of the opinion that he was a distant relative of Col. William Crawford, who was burned b;y the Delawares on the Tymochee, in Wyantdot County in 1728." I'm just wondering if you have an;y clues to if this is correct. What I have on my family is this Josiah Crawford b abt 1730(resided in E Nottingham Chester Co Pa and then in North Stabane Twp Washington Co Pa) There is some debate as to who Josiah's father was But have some evidence that it is either John or his brother James who lived in the same county and just happen to name their children the same names Josiah married Margaret Morrison(dau of Guyon Morrison & Margaret ____) Josiah died May 1797 children: 1.Elizabeth 2.Andrew 3.**John 4.Josiah Jr 5.James 6.Alexander 7.Guyon 8.Margaret 9Hannah 10.William 11 Mary Polly Have a large amount of info from **John down to me Nancy _Ohio

I found this ref. in my unorganized notes: Egle's Penn. Women in the Rev., pp.58-61. The following portions of that account "William Crawford, son of Valentine Crawford, an emigrant from the North of ireland, was born Oct17, 1732, in Orange co., Va...." This puzzles me since I have other info. that tells of the father being b. 1706 Orange Co., Va., perhaps his grandfather William Crawford was from Ireland, I have him b. abt 1665.. Now there are 2 puzzles here, what is his given name and what are the correct birth dates? I also found the following unconnected in my database: Valentine Crawford, b. 1678 Orange Co., Fa. so of John Crawford. Can anybody enlighten me as to where they fit in with Col. Wm. and Valentine Crawford? I would guess she received about 200 cards, but not all from the Crawford-L list. That includes friends & relatives. Plus about 50 e-mail greetings, but again from various sources. Not very many people that we didn't know said how they got her name. Thanks for asking!

Why is it that when you read your own message after it is sent to the list you immediately see the mistake that you didn't see when you read it three times before you sent sent it? :) A correction to next to last paragraph of my previous message on the same Subject: In looking over the known daughters of David Crawford it appears that all were married, none to a Holt. My question thus centers around the possibility of David Crawford having an unidentified daughter who married John Holt, or could one of the known daughters married John Holt? [Not David Holt] If this David Crawford is not the David who deeds property to his grandson, who might the other David Crawfords be. The common time and place seem to me to point to the wife of John Holt being a daughter of David Crawford (son of John b. 1625). I'll appreciate ideas, evidence, or research suggestions. Hello, I'm new to this list and have a question related to a connection between my Holt ancestor and David Crawford (b. 1625, moved to Jamestown, VA in 1643 with father John Crawford). I am in the process of researching my HOLT line which takes me to New Kent Co. c1706. My David HOLT at that time received a patent for 300 acres on Totopotomoys Creek which had been a deed of gift from his grandfather David CRAWFORD in 1686, this would have been shortly after David HOLT was born. It is described in Nugent's "Cavaliers and Pioneers" Vol. III p. 107. I note that a David CRAWFORD did patent 1000 acres on Mattadequn Cr., 8 Oct. 1672, which was in close proximity to the land that was given to David HOLT. David Holt went on to live his entire life in New Kent Co. in the southeastern part of that became Hanover Co. David HOLT grew up on Hog Island Surry Co. but had significant exposure to Jamestown. His father John Holt, a descendant of Randall Holt, in addition to being a large farmer on Hog Island, ran a ferry to Jamestown and they were active in Jamestown affairs. John Holt's birth, while not know exactly, falls in the same time frame as the children of David Crawford mentioned above. In looking over the known daughters of David Crawford it appears that all were married, none to a Holt. My question thus centers around the possibility of David Crawford having an unidentified daughter, or could one of the known daughters have married David Holt? If this David Crawford is not the David who deeds property to his grandson, who might the other David Crawfords be. The common time and place seem to me to point to the wife of John Holt being a daughter of David Crawford (son of John b. 1625). I'll appreciate ideas, evidence, or research suggestions. I have recently tried to correspond with Christopher "Kit" Crawford regarding this issue but my messages to his prodigy email address, shown on his web page, keep bouncing. If anyone has a new address for him I would appreciate it. Bill __________________ Bill Cook (K5LPS) Newburgh, IN 47630
