    1. Re: Alabama Crawfords
    2. mykidsdad
    3. Am searching for info on Russell Crawford and James Russell Crawford, who resided in Limestone Co., Alabama in 1820. In 1822, James lived in Lawrence Co., Alabama where my great-great grandfather, Robert Burney Crawford was born on Feb. 22 of that year. James R. Crawford was b. Abt. 1790 in Tennessee, he married Elizabeth Cherry prior to 1820. She was born in Georgia. James d. Abt. 1859 in Coles Co., IL. James R. & Elizabeth (Cherry) Crawford had the following children: James R., Jr. b. 1821 Alabama; Robert B., b. 22 Feb 1822 Lawrence Co., Ala.; Elizabeth C., b. 1827 Ala.; and Anna Eliza b. 1828 Clark Co., IL. James moved his family to Coles, IL (then Clark Co.) in 1828 when Robert was 6 years of age. Any info is appreciated. Randy Flowers mykidsdad@revealed.net

    1. Lemuel Crawford-Alamo Defender
    2. I have made requests in the past for any information anyone might care to share re- garding Lemuel Crawford. Someone out there is bound to know something about Lemuel. He wasn't an ordinary person, he died at the Alamo. Now,anyone who has a relative that died in that cause would be proud of that fallen hero. I have some information that leads me to believe he was my GG uncle, but I am light years away from any substantial confirmation. The information I have in that regard has been passed to me by others who have gleaned it from family bibles, etc. I have developed the following information from the Texas State Archives and the Daughters of the Republic of Texas. 1. Southwestern Historical Quarterly, Vol. 34, Pg. 252, Jul. 1932, Apr. 1933 refers to a David Crawford of Wetmore, TX who states that Lemuel was his uncle. Does anyone have information as to what line of Crawfords David belong to? Does anyone know of any of David's living relatives? 2. On July 13, 1840, Lemuels heirs were granted 1920 acres from the state of Texas for his military service. The land was in Taylor County, TX. 3. On Dec. 26, 1836 Col. J.C. Neill, his commanding officer submitted to the Republic stating that Lempel was entitled to pay for 2 months and 24 days service totaling $45.28. Lemuel left the Army on this date, but later rejoined and was at the Alamo. He was approximately 22 yrs. old when he died. 4. On July 13, 1840 Mr. B. T. Archer, Sctry. of War for the Republic signed a docu- ment assigning what ever pay Lemuel was due for the period of Feb. 13, 1836 to (when he reenlisted) to March 6, 1836, to Mr. E. Burleson for services as Attorney of Adms. 5. Lemuel married a lady named Jane Gotcher who lived near Rabbs Creek in what is now Lee CO., TX It is my understanding that they had one daughter and one son, although I haven't been able to confirm that en toto. Do know for sure that there was a daughter. One of the things that makes this search so difficult is the fact that the Army of the Republic of Texas did not maintain enlistment records as we do today. No next of kin, parents, etc. at least if they did I haven't been able to find it. If anyone knows of any documents anywhere in this country, or person or persons in this country that would lead me to his parents and line, I would travel anywhere to find it. If this information is of any benefit to anyone, that's great, you are free to use it. I would appreciate any help. Dale Crawford Houston, TX

    3. http://www.rootsweb.com/~okokfusk/marriages/grooms.htm When the County Coordinator changed in February 1999, there was a partial list of marriage records on this site. The name of the transcriber was not noted. The lists contains only those marriages where the groom's surname begins with A or B. Notes indicate the records were taken from the Okfuskee Index of County Marriage books. The earliest record is 1908 and the latest is 1940. It was noted that records after 1940 were not transcribed due to privacy issues. An asterick beside the name indicates difficulty in transcription and possible spelling errors. Note: Complete early marriage records have been published (see Reference Materials page) and some lookups are available (see Look-ups page). 2. Hi Cathy, It seems that Henry was right, you and he are related. I found your Sarah Jane Crawford in the same family tree. Sarah's husband is listed as Jerdon Hasbrough not Jordan. Their children are listed as Hamilton, Melvian, Hobart and Ryise. Sarah's mother is Mary Frances Crawford, born 1848, nickname Polly, no husband listed. The 5 brothers that you listed for Sarah, William, Robert, John, James and Fluroy are all listed except for James. There are two sisters, Emma Florance, born March 7, 1881, and Mary Francis, born April 20, 1885. If I can get Henry's updates to this database and your updates, I'm sure we can link more Rockingham Crawford's together. Robert Lee Crawford, Sr

    1. Crawford: KY Bio

    3. The following bio on an H.H. Gibson was posted by Sandi Gorin on the KY-Bios list this morning. Mr. Gibson's wife was Miss Mary H. CRAWFORD. #3767: Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, ed. 8-B, Pulaski County H.H. Gibson was born in Clay County, Ky., November 9, 1839, seventh son of Stephen and Ann Gibson. He left home at an early age and commenced business in Richmond, Ky., with Mr. Walker, as a clerk, where he remained about two years, when he entered into the mercantile business at Monticello, Ky., for himself. He was in business in Monticello for nine or ten years. November 29, 1871, he married Miss Mary H. CRAWFORD, oldest daughter of John and Bettie (Curd) CRAWFORD. Two children were born, and a few years later he removed to Somerset, Ky., and entered into a partnership with his brother, Rob Gibson, in baking and merchandising, which he continued until his death, which occurred September 2, 1882. He filled both positions in the bank, president and cashier, and at the time of his death was filling that of president. The uppermost thought of his life was for his family, and the principal he wanted most to instill in the mind of his son was never to tell a falsehood. He was blessed with a genial and happy disposition, always having a kind word for every one. He was possessed of a bright intellect, and of a genial, generous spirit, and at all times, when convinced of a charity or good enterprise, never failed to respond liberally. His gifts to charity and for religious purposes were more than the common public knew of. He practiced no deception, but was always open, frank and manly in all his acts and dealings. Truly can it be said his life was an exemplary one, and one from which the young men of the country might take an instructive and profitable lesson of wisdom and prudence. By his death Somerset has lost one of its best, most useful and enterprising citizens. The two children are Joseph H. and Maggie A., who, with his widow, Mary H. Gibson, still survive him and reside at Somerset, Ky.
