    1. William Crawford 1732-1782
    2. Biography found in THE CRAWFORD FAMILY, published 1973 by the American Genealogical Research Institute, Arlington VA William Crawford b.1732 d.11 Jun 1782 Revolutionary soldier. Born in PA of Scotch-Irish parents. Worked early years as farmer and surveyor, for short time worked with George Washington. In 1755 he fought with General Braddock, soon became captain and leader of scouts. 1758, fought in the siege of Fort Duquesne and the Pontiac War. 1766, moved with his family to western PA, became a jurist and land agent for Washington. 1774, acting on orders from Lord Dunmore (the Governor of Ohio), Crawford destroyed two Iroquois villages in OH. When the Revolution began, Crawford was a member of the committee of defense at Pittsburgh. He was commissioned lieutenant colonel of the 5th Virginia Regiment. he took part in the battles of Long Island, Trenton, Princeton, Brandywine, and Germantown. He retired after the war, but in 1782 was requested by General Irvine to lead an expedition against the Indians in OH. But the Indians, informed of the invaders, were prepared... the white men were ambushed and surrounded. Crawford was captured, tortured, and burned at the stake. Maybe he found time to have children during all of this and belongs to one of us??? Debra Claussen

    3. Can anyone help Russell? his email address is: rcrawfo@mindspring.com ----- Original Message ----- From: Russell T. Crawford To: leonardz@geocities.com Sent: Thursday, September 23, 1999 7:05 PM Leonard, I am looking for any information I can get prior to the information I currently have. My name is Russell T. Crawford of Baton Rouge, La. USA. My Great Great Grandfather, William Crawford was born in Lincolnshire County England on Jan. 19th, 1828. He lived in Lincolnshire County until manhood when he met Miss Mary A. Waite born June 1st, 1831 in Lincolnshire County and married her on July 10th, 1851. Two years later a son was born, Thomas, on July 4th, 1853. After his birth they left England for America where they settled in Pike County, in Griggsville, Illinois. They had a total of ten children. Thomas, William, Claudia & Francis are all the names I have of the ten children. My Great Grandfather William Crawford, I don't know if he was a Junior or what was born to Mary and William on Dec. 24, 1858. He lived in Griggsville with his parents until he was 10 years old then moved with parents to Lee County Iowa. He lived there until 1882 when he returned to Pike County Ill! inois. On March 25, 1886 he married Sarah Elizabeth Shaw. They had six children, one passed away during childhood. The family then moved to Whiting, Kansas. My Grandfather Russell was one of three brothers; Russell, Harry and Jesse and two sisters of which I don't presently have their names. Russell's father William died in Whiting, Kansas in July 23, 1902 and his mother Sarah died May 11th, 1907 in Whiting, Kansas also. The serviving children were raise by their aging Great Grandmother Crawford. William Crawford husband of Mary, died June 18th, 1905 in Whiting, Kansas I beleive, but not certain. Mary Crawford died in Whiting, Kansas Dec. 21st, 1902. William born in 1828, had a sister, Anna, that was born Dec. 11th, 1841 and came to America with her and William's Parents in 1852, prior to William and Mary's crossing with their son in 1853. My father Nathan Louis Crawford, Sr. was born April 2nd, 1917 to Russell Crawford and wife, the former Mary Elizabeth Altholf. He also had! a sister Ruth Crawford two years older, but I don't have the birth date. I have an older brother Nathan, Jr., myself Russell T., Margery Ann and Madelyn Trese. My mothers name is Marjorine Scarborough. I hope that you can use this information and possibly give me a hand. Thanks for your assistance, Sincerely, Rus Crawford

    1. John Lewis Crawford
    2. I am searching for information on the descendents of John Lewis crawford (B.1822) and Mariah Mac(orMc)Nichol (b.1828). Their children (b. 1848 - 1869 +) were: John,Emily, Maria, Lucinda, Belle, Jessie A., E.Julia, Alexander, Lottie, Anna, Charles (my grandfather), Ella, and one, possibly two additional ones. I believe John and Mariah were married in the mid 1840's in Queenston, Ont. Canada. They later moved to Susehequin, Bradford County, PA where they and several daughters are buried. John was a shoemaker by trade and the family was active in the Unitarian Church there. Known surnames fior the daughters include; HAVENS, GRIGGS, GOLDEN & LUTHER. One daughter & spouse moved to Seattle, another to Virginia. I believe that the other children settled in PA and Broome County, NY. Any Information or leads concerning this branch of the Crawford family will be appreciated. I have additional information/records and dates, as well as the family photo album. If you think that there might be a connection to your Crawford's please contact me at dca2oak@aol.com. Hoping for information - Diane
