Dear Linda, On the 1850 census index I just purchased, there are about 530 William Crawford heads-of-households in the United States, but these were the only ones I found in your state and county. There were none in the Elksrun township, but I did accidentally stumble on to a couple of Washington Crawfords in that township. If you have evidence that your William was in this township on the 1850 census, I would love to have a copy so I can point out the omission to Family Tree Maker! Hope this helps, Debra Claussen Census Index: U.S. Selected Counties, 1850 Crawford, William,OH,Columbiana Co.,St Clair Twp,Page # : 220 Crawford, William,OH,Columbiana Co.,St Clair Twp,Year : 1851 Crawford, William,OH,Columbiana Co.,Madison Twp,Page # : 268 Crawford, William,OH,Columbiana Co.,Madison TwpYear : 1851 Crawford, William,OH,Columbiana Co.,St Clair Twp,Page # : 219 Crawford, William,OH,Columbiana Co.,St Clair Twp,Year : 1851 Crawford, William,OH,Columbiana Co.,Wayne Twp,Page # : 254 Crawford, William,OH,Columbiana Co.,Wayne Twp,Year : 1851 Crawford, William B.,OH,Columbiana Co.,Madison Twp,Page # : 268 Crawford, William B.,OH,Columbiana Co.,Madison Twp,Year : 1851 Crawford, Washington,OH,Columbiana Co.,Elkrun Twp,Year : 1850,Page # : 212 Crawford, Washington,OH,Columbiana Co.,Elkrun Twp,Year : 1851 In a message dated 12/4/1999 11:58:07 AM Central Standard Time, blybones@bellsouth.net writes:<< Just wondering how many William Crawfords there are??I have William Crawford 1831 married a Martha? they were in Elksrun township, Columbinia Co ohio in 1850 they had eleven children : Mary Jane, Susanna Samuel William M. Hello list! I'm a newbie looking for information about John S. Crawford, born May 1829 somewhere in Scotland. He was married to Isabella, born in 1838, died October 24, 1894. Their children were: Charles, born 1857 John, born 1859 Mary W., born June, 1865 Margerette or Maggie C., born November 1870 George M., born June 1877 Archibald, born September 1878, and finally, my grandmother, Frances (Fannie) I., born May 11, 1881. Fannie was the only member of her family born in the USA. The family settled in Crookston, Minnesota. Charles apparently returned to Scotland and Fannie never again spoke to her family after she married my grandfather, apparently against her family's wishes (maybe because his parents were English? Who knows?). Anyway, I've been having some pretty good fun tracking them down but can always use a helping hand. Nice to meet you all! Donna Stevens dstevens@spiritone.com
To all Crawfords, This is the third time I have sent this message, the first two, solicited some responses, but no additional information on the subject. Hopefully, this time someone new to the list out there has some background knowledge and they can pass it on to the rest of us. Additionally, I have since, obtained from official Scotland sources two drawings of what the building looked like in two different stages of its existence in the 1800 eds. Truly remarkable. The gist is this, one of the more elusive locations, as far as finding much information about, is the family home of the Crawfords that came from Kilbirnie and moved near Struthers and Cupar in the Kingdom of Fife. This is not my family line however; but during our recent visit to Scotland, my interest was more in seeing the home where this family had lived and viewing the edifice involved. It has been referred to, as the Crawford Lodge, Priory and others. The small amount of information that I have is as listed below and I am in hopes someone can provide any additional material. I have seen and have taken pictures of this ruin and if anyone is interested along with the drawings, contact me on private email and I can send you a copy in Jpg format. Background...in what I have......In Kilbirnie....... [1] The Fourth Viscount George Craufurd succeeded as the 21st Earl of Crawford upon the death of John Earl of Lindsay, 20th Earl of Crawford. He married December 26th, 1755, Jane Hamilton the daughter of Robert Hamilton, of Bourker Hill. He lived in Kilbirnie Castle until it burned in 1757 and was never rebuilt.. The family then move to and resided in Fifeshire near Struthers. He died at Crawford Lodge, on the 11th of August, 1781 and was succeeded by his eldest son, George, as the 22nd Earl of Crawford who died in 1808 unmarried and the line ceased to exist. [2] I also received from another contact, information that was included in a book written in the late 1890's. It states the following. CRAWFORD PRIORY: a mansion in the North of Cults parish central Fife near the right bank of the Eden, 3 miles South West of Cupar. Built in 1810+ by Lady Mary Lindsay Crawford who in 1808 had succeeded to the Crawford Lindsay estates on the death of her brother the 22nd Earl of Crawford. It was originally a splendid castellated edifice in the Gothic style but fell into neglect and dilapidation till in 1871-72 it was thoroughly renovated and enlarged. A carriage porch and vestibule being then erected at the south entrance and a Gothic tower and spire 115 feet high at the East side, whilst a portion of the interior was converted into a private Episcopal chapel. To me, even in ruins it is a magnificent looking edifice and was very impressive in its prime. Any assistance will be appreciated.....Mike Crawford......... Montana
I got into the site by going through the online Family Tree Maker site. But I had to have one of my Family Tree Maker disk in the CD ROM for it to acknowledge me. Gary L. Dear Cousins & Friends, I have added several more family pictures to my site. I have about two dozen more that I will be adding to my site over the next few days. Some of them are quite old. While you come to view them, please, check my family line. If you are related, let me know. I want to create a mailing list of those directly connected so that we can share our genealogical discoveries. If you have more information on our family to offer, please, forward it as you have the time! I would also like to add a new section to my web site. I want to include any old family portraits that you would like to offer for posting on my web site, whether you are closely related or not. The only qualifications are that they are old and of a family. Alan An American Family www.homestead.com/AlanCole Favorites www.homestead.com/ColeLinks $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ Shop from home!
