Hi, I am new to the list. This is a line I just started on a year ago. Nancy J. Crawford B- 1 April 1830 in Fayette Co.,Penn. She married John C. Lewis about 1850-1851. He was born in Delaware 1819. They had their first two kids in Penn. then the next four in Van Buren Co., Iowa Nancy died in Lee co.,Iowa in 1909 I am looking for her parents. Does anyone have any ideas. It almost went out with the trash today. It lists John Thomas Chaney married Mary Elizabeth Crawford, in Bartholemew, Ashley Co. Ar. on November 25, 1875. It lists their children, births, deaths, marriages. Please contact me, I have enough problems with my own genealogy.

I believe she was the SISTER of Jane, Henry, and Lawrence. (I suspect she was also the sister of a Casse (Catherine) in the 1850 census and a Sarah J. in the 1880 census). In the 1850 census Matilda's age is given as 33. Henry is 29. Jane is 22 and Lawrence is 18. Matilda is not old enough to have had children ages 29 and 22. It's possible for her to have had an 18 year old, but I do not believe that is the case here. I believe is it more likely that Lawrence is her brother. (Also it's important to note that both Henry and Catherine are identified as brother and sister in the 1880 R'ham census. There is an additional sister mentioned in 1880, Sarah J.) I suspect that John Crawford (who was 57 years old in the 1850 census) was the FATHER of Matilda, Henry, Jane, Lawrence, Catherine and Sarah J. One could make a case that Matilda was a second wife, much younger than her husband, and that the children mentioned in the 1850 census are the children of an unknown first wife, but I believe it is far more likely that she was his daughter given the following important clue (found at http://member.aol.com/CrawfordNet/rockingham.htm in the Rockingham County Death List extracted from court house records): Crawford, Matilda died 5-9-1880 in Rockingham, age 62, cause dropsy, born in Rockingham, d/o John and Polly, source of info, Jane Crawford, Sister. This leads one to think that John was married to a gal named Polly. It also identifies Matilda as a DAUGHTER. I would also suspect that wife Polly died before 1850 because there is no record of her there or in subsequent census records. It would still be premature to link this family up though without further research. Good luck in your research. Linda

My husband's grandmother was Lida Juanita Crawford (some trees I have seen have misspelled as Waneta). She used to tell us if she was a boy her father was going to name her William McKinley Crawford. Her grandfather was William Francis Crawford born in 1805. He married Harriet ?. She was born in 1813 and died in 1868 in Bridgeport Ohio. Children of William and Harriet were: 1. Ok, this is what I have found. The father of David H. Crawford born 20 Apr 1821, is Rev. Joseph Crawford found in Coffee County in 1850, born 9 Dec 1797, and his first wife(?).
