I have a feeling my Moses Crawford is related to the Thomas in Itawamba , Ms. because so many of my other family members were there. My Moses was born anywhere from 1801 to 1811, according to census. He shown to have been born in either SC or GA. He married in 1831 in St Francis , Ark. to Evaline Wright and he died in Arkansas 10-23-1888. At one time he lived in Cohoma Co, Ms. He had a sister "Betsy" St Clare living with him on the 1880 Census In Ark--Mississippi Co, Ark. He lived in Barfield Point and Osceola, Ark. My husband and daughter are related through his daughter, Mary Jane Crawford and George W. Harrington who had Lydia Harrington who married Oscar Ingram. Would love to exchange inf. I am descended from the Moses CRAWFORD who was born about 1805 in Swanton, Franklin, Vermont. He married Mary WEBSTER, born in Sandwich, Carroll, New Hampshire on 13 Jan 1805. They were reportedly the parents of eight children. In 1830, the family lived in Highgate. In 1840 they were living in Wayne County , New York. In 1850 they lived in Clinton County , New York. In 1860, Mary WEBSTER CRAWFORD was living back in Swanton with three children; Mary b. 1835 in New York, George b. 1844 in New York, Clarista b. in 1847 in New York. Also living with them is Almira CRAWFORD who was born in 1855 in "Canada E." (I think that Almira was the daughter fo Mary [the daughter]) Perhaps, Moses CRAWFORD died in Canada. George later lived in Ayer Mass with his wife and five sons. Both George CRAWFORD and Mary WEBSTER CRAWFORD died in Ayer and are buried at nearby Woodlawn Cemetery. Arizona Daily Star, Sunday, May 15, 2011 CRAWFORD, Don, "Granny Goose", passed away at Devon Gables on May 7, 2011, following a long illness. Animal lover, day dreamer, musician, successful composer and finally a Tucson window washer, Don was one of the gentlest men to walk the surface of this earth. He made the life of anyone who knew him more interesting. At his request there will be no services but donations in his memory will be appreciated by the Humane Society. Arrangements by Desert Rose Cremation and burial. Talk at me later, Bob Crawford Tucson, AZ. DNA # 92524
Rhonda, Sharon seems to have pretty much answered your question for me. I would add that it's recommended to have a least a 37 Loci test. To few done and half the world becomes your relative. Most of the stuff that I have read says that at that point it's the most cost effective. It just depends on how much you want to spend. I did use the CRAWFORD CLAN test site and I fell into no-mans land and you have my number to use as an example to check out the site. As Sharon states reasons for a no match could be adopted or alias OR one of the past grandmothers had some spare time on her hands, keeping an open mind and all. Please drop us an line if we can be of any further help. ;-) Talk at me later, Bob Crawford Tucson, AZ DNA # - 92524 At 01:08 PM 5/16/2011, you wrote: >Greetings, I noticed your DNA number and would like to know more >about it, as I'm still banging my head on the same brickwall since >1980. Hi everyone! Family Tree DNA and several other sites offer DNA testing for a nominal cost as also Ancestry.com does. It is a good idea to have a test on a male member of your family so that you have a better idea as to where your ancestors may have originated. There are quite a few variances, particularly in Scotland and Ireland. It is not a total answer, but can keep you from going to wrong places and also maybe help you to narrow down the choices that you should look for. And who knows, you may get a match and be lucky. Don't forget also that the Crawford name may be adopted and also may be an alias. But is very much wotth it. If you don't get the test and both members pass away, it will be gone probably forever. That is one of the reasons I had my brother tested. Crawford Clan has a web site that has DNA available to look at and compare, also lineages which you might want to look at for comparison. Good Luck, Sharon Greetings, I noticed your DNA number and would like to know more about it, as I'm still banging my head on the same brickwall since 1980. There is my Dad and cousin left for testing. Can you steer me in the right direction? Looking for parents for Joseph Luther Crawford b. 1873 in Nebraska. My CRAWFORD lived in Union Co., and Alexander Co., Illinois. Census records indicate that he was from Ohio. I just recently found out that he passed away in a mental hospital in the Anna/Jonesboro, Illinois area and just before that he was living in Cairo, Illinois. He deserted my Great Grandmother and married another woman without getting a divorce. He was born about 1844. This is the entire knowledge that I have of the man. Don't think this will be of much help but you never know. Also, all my cemetery adventures were West of the Mississippi. Talk at me later, Bob Crawford Tucson, AZ. Your story about your Islandic Crawford reminds me of how a friend of mine became a Crawford. He was living in Liverpool, England. He got in some trouble and decided to change his name and come to Canada. I was walked down a street and saw a sign on a factory that said "Crawford's Biscuits." Right then he decided to become a Crawford. The family have been here a couple of generations and still have the Crawford sir name. Hi Everyone, Sure glad to see activity again, particularly Canada. I am looking for any information anyone might have (related or not) on a Jakob Sigurdsson Crawford and his family. Jakob was born in Iceland (Yes, that is correct!) and came over to Canada about 1875. He was born April 18, 1855 and died in Athabaca, Alberta about July 16, 1930. He had a large family, and I am most interested in tracking his sons as one of them could be my Grandfather. This person was born around 1899 and may have left the family for reasons unknown. Jakob's name was Sigurdson but he was given the name "Crawford" during the quarantine which followed after his ship landed in Canada (Around Winnipegosis, MB), and he kept the name as an additional name. (and eventually took it as his own) Jakob had relatives in Garder and Thingvalla Townships in Pembina County, ND at one time. I am asking for some help as Canadian records are not as available or plentiful as in the United States. Anything anyone knows with be really appreciated. Thanks!!! For what it's worth. A few years back I had the idea of mapping all the graves I've found over the many years of research and I did this with the aid of my GPS and I do believe any GPS device will do this. I just knew that some of the graves I had found only a researcher would spent the time looking for. Once I had collected the information I did some adjustments, talked about below, and mailed copies to all the family members, hopefully someone will kept a copy. I can't speak for all GPS units but mine gave me the coordinates in its own format - GPS. I don't know why I was surprised but I was, I Googled "GPS converter" and got the site that I have listed below. It will convert your GPS input into Degrees, Minutes and Seconds AND Decimal Degrees and for icing on the cake it will also give you map of that location. This was great as more than once I had flipped some numbers around. Hopefully a few others will find this useful if not interesting. I have not seen this talked about before but if I'm repeating the subject again please forgive my lack of memory. http://boulter.com/gps/ Talk at me later, Bob C. Tucson, AZ.
