Came across a new to me web-site. I previously posted about using a GPS device to mark headstone's. This web-site will take any format and locate the item for you as others will also do. The big difference is depending on your display device it could be off far enough, I don't know why, that you'll find the cemetery but will have to search for the headstone or whatever. In some cases I could look at the aerial view and see that the location it was showing was way off so, I would grab and move the proper location under the cross hairs in the center of the screen and in a shaded area in the bottom right hand side it would show the correct coordinates. I don't know if being a pilot and skydiver helps with aerial views or not, maybe not but I've been able to do a lot of fine tuning. If, in the future when I take a picture of the headstone or item I will also take two more pictures. One of the best land mark available and the other will be either 90 degrees to the left or right and then cross reference them later looking at the web site. If no references then I'd print a picture then while on site mark the location and work backwards from there. Don't forget a long measuring tape to measure off a road, building or whatever. There is a scale at the bottom left of your screen which changes as you move in or out. I know I can locate the item well within 7 feet. Sometimes the detail was downright scarry. NOTE: This web-site works best using the Mozilla Firfox web browser which I use 99% of the time. Using I.E. is pretty much a waste time or at least it was so on my two systems. And under options you can change the coordinate format. <http://mapper.acme.com/>http://mapper.acme.com Talk at me later, Bob Crawford Tucson AZ DNA # 92524 ------------------------------ Message: 2 Date: Mon, 1 Aug 2011 00:52:43 -0500 From: "Wilson" <redhangar@charter.net> Subject: [CRAWFORD] Adam Crawford and Mary? 3. Hello everyone, I've posted on here previously looking for parentage of Moses Crawford of the Chickasawba, Arkansas area. I got a response that he had a sister named "Betsy St. Claire/St. Clare" Can anyone tell me if anyone has any information about Moses Crawford b. 1765, d. 1/8/1830 m. Rebecca Etley. Could this be the father of the Moses I'm related to? They do have a son named Moses, born about the same time as my Moses, and they have a daughter named Elizabeth, which is the long form of Betsy. Any information would be helpful, even if there is no connection at least I can cross them off my search. Thanks! 3. Shelly - I'm not CRAWFORD family, but you may wish to check a website dedicated to returning photos to family members....or just having them catalogued so anyone can view them. a FREE site, they have advertisements and offers for donations. These are not required to use the site in any manner. Skip donation requests. www.deadfred.com The local Genealogical Society here in Bartlesville [near Tulsa, OK] is doing a whole program on DeadFred this month. We are going to learn how to send photos in and learn how they are viewable. I have collected dozens of orphaned studio photos, all had to have names written on them. I've mostly posted to Rootsweb Lists and Message Boards and found homes for maybe 20% of these. Sometimes they did not want the photo, but only a scan of it. I'll be learning how to get all these sent to DeadFred. It may be a better method for me to just send them in a big box to their HQ. I'll be asking that question of the speaker. VAN HOUSE, age 9, born MN Lester VAN HOUSE, age 7, born MN Lucy L. VAN HOUSE, age 3, born Howard Co. IA I am hoping to locate someone from this family so that the photograph can be returned to the care of the family.
