    3. Is anyone on this list descended from a Hugh Crawford, born about 1754 in Prince George's County Maryland? He located in Nelson County Kentucky in the 1790's. There actually two of them, a Hugh Senior and a Hugh Junior. Hugh Jr.'s son William is my direct ancestor. He located in Gallatin County Illinois about 1810. I'd appreciate any information anyone might have and will gladly share what I have. Toni

    2. Tony & Vicki
    3. Am searching for siblings and parents of James Francis Crawford born in Liverpool in August 1833. The family were previously from Barrow Furness in Cumbria. In the early part of James's life the family moved to Wexford. James travelled to New Zealand on the ship Alma and took up railway surveying for the Provincial Government before setting in Christchurch and raising a family of 3 sons and a daughter, He was a engineer( and town clerk in his later years) and gave service to the early days of settlement in the then young city of Christchurch. I am hoping for some connection with other family members who may have left England and settled across the Atlantic Sincerely Vicki Cox

    3. Correction: after all I wrote below, I noticed that every reference I made to Illinois (Decatur County, for example) should have been INDIANA! Oh well. 3. So many of us have a stone wall! Mine is a James Crawford 1756-1836 who died in DeCatur County, Illinois, where he was an early settler after having lived previously in Kentucky territory as a young adult (where his son William E. Crawford was born 1784) and then in St. Francois County Missouri. My James is known to have been a revolutionary war veteran. There is a veterans tombstone placed in Decatur County stating he lived from 1756-1836. There are no pension records. It is my understanding that you had to show financial need to obtain a rev war pension when they became available, and he was a landowner by then (of the pioneering sort) so either he did not have had an interest in the pension opportunity or did not qualify. I can find nothing about his wife, who probably long pre-deceased him, his parents, his birthplace, or his place of enlistment I have been able to rule out a couple of other James Crawfords living in similar times and places (one who was a Presbyterian minister who lived in Kentucky territory during some of the same years as my James, and another who was also a rev. war soldier, but buried in a different county in Illinois, and he did have a pension), but there were so many James Crawfords! My James could have been born on this continent, or not. I have spent quite a bit of time on this and it is my stone wall. Maybe someday something new will come to light. Best of luck to all. 3. Dear Charles, WOW, At last a Canadian is coming on line. I have family that arrived about 1830 from Ireland and settled in Port Hope and later went to Owen Sound. In the late 1850 they moved to Owen Sound and the younger moved to Winnipeg in 1899. I have got pretty well all the family in my TREE. I would like to have some of your histories that might be fitting to my family and hopefully get more data on all these people. I am a retired engineer in my upper 80's who has got a DNA in the hope that i will match someone. (Number Below). Cheers, A lot of Frost today. Robert T. 3. It makes sense that Zilly would be an abbreviated form of Priscilla, as I've lived in NC, Miss, Iowa, Nebr, Texas, DC and I've never seen that name before....but who knows.. One time, I noticed that Crawford is also a very common black name (I am white/Kansas-Texas lineage), and I got backlash from two people for asking that, so I am more careful now what I ask. I certainly didn't mean to offend anyone...just thought it would help sort out about half of the Crawfords. Hope you can find Zilly. I think that's a really pretty name, even though I can't hear it because I've been deaf since I was three. -----Original Message----- From: Wanda Harbert <wandaharbert@charter.net> To: crawford <crawford@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tue, Oct 25, 2011 11:01 am Subject: [CRAWFORD] Zillah Ann Crawford Sharon & others, My Crawford line is a needle in a haystack. 3. Sharon & others, My Crawford line is a needle in a haystack. I have searched years for my first great grandmother and have been on the Crawford list since 1996. Some of you may remember me as Wanda Tracy ( wrtracy@juno) and I have posted many articles on this site. My great grandmother, Zillah Ann Crawford ( AKA Zilley/Zealla was born Dec 1822 in Alabama ( according to Texas census records) or perhaps in TN ( according to her son, my grandfather). She may have been part or full blood Native American . Her father may have been a John Crawford. I have no information on her parents or siblings. My grandfather said she was either the oldest child or next oldest. She supposed to have went to Texas in a wagon train with "relatives" around 1837, with the same wagon train as William Owen family of TN. Zilley married Pinckney Winfield Owen before ( barely) Oct 1, 1937 as She & husband, P.W. received a land grant of 1280 acres from Republic of Texas. Zilley died in 1877 Limestone County, Texas, and had 10 children I have posted many times on this list, searching for her. Those of you who have been on the list will most likely remember. I would appreciate any help, leads, tips regarding my Zilley. I have wondered if her name had been Priscilla and Zillah a nickname??? I am a born Texan now living in California. Thanks for any help. Wanda

Our beloved mother Lois, (affectionately known as Vagabub), 83, left this life unexpectedly on September 1, 2011 in Tucson, due to complications from a stroke. She was born in Los Angeles on May 25, 1928, the youngest child of Anna I. and Pitser Miller Crawford. She is survived by daughter Sue; sons and daughters-in-law, Brian and Barbie, Dewey and Avril, Mike and Meredith; granddaughter, Brittania (Tim) Tobin; grandsons, Brantley and Riley; step-grandson, Andrew; brother, William M. Crawford; as well as many nephews, nieces, cousins and countless friends all over the world. She was predeceased by her husband of 42 years, Laurence M. Bub, and sister Betty Pinney. We miss you Mom, but know you and Dad are planning the grand adventures you can now take together. A Tucson celebration of her life is planned for Saturday, November 12, 2011 in the Tiki Room at Far Horizons Mobile Home Estates, 5000 E. Grant Rd. at 1:00 p.m. Please wear bright colors and bring stories to share. In lieu of flowers, we ask her memory be honored by crossing something off you bucket list, practice a random act of kindness, or anything that will perpetuate the kind, gentle, and positive soul she was. for more details, e-mail loisbub.1928_2011@yahoo.com.
