I knew that James Crawford and Abigail Vest were married in 1810, so I looked through all of the 1810 census records, and I only found one family where there was only one male and one female living. The ages were close to being right (the census records were not exact then). I knew that wasn't enough evidence, and I still know it isn't. This was in Salem Twp., Westmoreland Co., PA. Then I went to Westmoreland County and looked through old records. I found tax records showing a James Crawford in Salem Twp. for 1811 and 1812. Then there was a note on the record that says "Gone." My husband and I figured that means they were gone from the area after 1812. Next I find a record of a James Crawford being a blacksmith in Muskingum Co., OH around 1814, and then on to Morgan Co., OH (which is just south of Muskingum Co.) where he dies. Like I said, I can't say this is 100% proof, but it's all I can go on for now. I hope this helps you.     3. It would be very helpful to look at land records in the PA archives. Westmoreland was a huge county in PA and other counties made from it. Ask for a copy of the index at the Archives and give a 10 to 15 year span for your surname. Send them some money, a self addressed stamped envelope and ask prices for copying. Then you can chose the records you want from the index. Many times we search for names, dates and deaths and forget to check out the history of the state in which our ancestors lived. They traveled on the water and settled near it. Generally.. The first time they bought was when they came and the last time they sold was when they left. If you can find a 1878 copy of The History of the United States by Ridpath, you can find the state history of the very early times of boundaries and where and why people were moving to new locations in the time frame you are researching. I am working on my CRAWFORD family from Beith, Ayrshire, Scotland and wanted to post these ancestors who came to america since this list appears to be largely American CRAWFORDS in case anyone has any connection. Jeannie Duncan Crawford Born 14.5.1885 at Knowes, Lochwinnoch. Mill worker in 1901 census. I was told she became teacher but no evidence. Her mother Mary Carrick died in 1911. Went to America with either her aunt Annie or Jessie Carrick (her mother, Mary Carrick’s sister who had come over for the mother’s funeral in 1911). It was supposed to be Jeannie's younger sister Barbara Crawford (1896 - 1981 married name Cumming) who went and it is supposed to be her name on passenger lists but Jeannie went instead, at last minute, after suffering a broken engagement with her boyfriend. I think they went to Massachusetts in USA. Dont know if Annie or Jessie Carrick had a married name by then or not. Said that Jeannie D Crawford married a Hubert Locke? in America and never came back to Scotland - but I cant find any proof or evidence of this marriage. Annie Carrick was born 8.1.1861 in Rothesay and Jessie Carrick born c 1857 in Partick. Not sure when they first went to America but sure it was after 1900. Gail M. Lynch

    3. Help! I am searching for info on my g g grandfather, Joseph Crawford, b. 1822 in Tn and died after 1880 in Tn. He married Clarissa Berry. A family story says he ran a stage line between Tn and Ky with his father but no proof has been found.     3. I've "rescued" an old photograph of Zoe SARCHETT which was taken at the Gregory Studio in Sacramento, California. The photograph appears to have been taken in the 1880's with Zoe likely about 4 years old at the time it was taken. In addition to her name, someone has written "2215 J Street" on the back of the photograph. Based on limited research I was able to gather the following information regarding Zoe and her family as follows: Minnie Zoe SARCHET was b. 20 Aug 1883 in CA to parents Horace Lincoln SARCHET (1860-1946 - son of Cyrus B. SARCHET & Edith SKELTON) and Emma SWAIN or SWEENEY (1865-1889). Minnie was one of 3 children born to this couple including Minnie Zoe; Amy Zella; and Harrison SARCHET all born between 1883 and 1888. When their Mother died in 1889 the children were adopted to Mr. & Mrs. J. D. TATE. Minnie Zoe married Clarence CRAWFORD (b. 1884) and together they had 2 children, Irma Z.; and Robert L. CRAWFORD born between 1904 and 1910. Minnie Zoe died 24 Aug 1968 in Monterey, CA. Census records provide the following information: 1880 census of Sacramento, CA: living with sister Margaret KERLIN and family Edith SARCHET, age 39, at Home, born IA Lincoln SARCHET, son, age 20, Clerks in Office, born CA 1880 Sacramento City Directory - Lincoln H. SARCHETT salesman/cashier at Mechanics Store - res @ 918 Thirteenth St 1881 Sacramento City Directory - Mrs. E. SARCHETT (widow) and H. L. SARCHETT, asst bookkeeper Mechanic's Store - res @ 716 12th Street 1893 Sacramento City Directory - H. Lincoln SARCHETT Cashier @ Weinstock Lubin & Co. - res @ 2215 J Street 1901 Sacramento City Directory - H. Lincoln SARCHETT res - 812 23rd St 1902 Sacramento City Directory - H.
