All- When staying with a friend of mine in York during August 1972, I decided to visit the village of Cranswick which is roughly 40 miles to the northeast, and so one morning I took the bus there. I remember that Cranswick was distinguished from adjacent villages of similar size by the absence of a village chapel and the presence of TWO pubs. Despite my generous custom, the barman at neither establishment was impressed by my appellation.
