Secondly, we know that her father was James Cranstoun. He was married twice, first to Elizabeth MacGill and then to Elizabeth Stewart, daughter of the Earl of Bothwell. By his first wife he had a daughter. By his second wife, he had another daughter. There is confusion as to which daughter was named Elizabeth and which was named Margaret. Furthermore, there is confusion as to which daughter married Patrick Cockburn and which married Thomas Craig of Riccarton. Some reliable sources put it one way and some reliable sources put it the other way. Given that I seem to descend from Thomas Craig three times, I would really like to know the identity of his wife once and for all. Was she a child of Elizabeth MacGill or Elizabeth Stewart?
