Daniel James Cranston was born in September 1847. His baptism in Montreal was Feb. 24, 1848 - son of Joseph Cranston and Sara McLeod which stated that he had been born 5 months previously. JOSEPH2 CRANSTON (CRANSTON1) was born Abt. 1818 ? in Ireland, and died 1860 in Canada. He married SARAH MCLEOD. She was born Abt. 1820 ? in Ireland or England or Scotland, and died 1861 ? in Canada. Notes for JOSEPH CRANSTON: This Cranston was born in Ireland and immigrated to Canada. He may possibly have been born in 1818 but this has not been confirmed. Son of Joseph Cranston, carpenter & Sarah McLeod (his wife) of this Parish (Notre Dame de Montreal). God parents: Mathew Kelly & Mary Delahoide. Joseph Cranstoun listed in the 1848 Montreal Directory. Joseph Cranstoun - only listed in 1848, pg. 64 (not listed in 1847) - he is a carpenter & lives at 52 St-Maurice St. (St. Antoinne Ward) - the dividing street in Montreal for East/West is St-Laurent St. - this Joseph is not found in subsequent years. There is a James Cranston listed in the Notre Dame Montreal Baptismal records and he may be a brother to Joseph Cranston but I have found no link between the two yet. Bernice Cranston b. 1902 was the daughter of Daniel J. Cranston Jr. born in Nov 1879 in Chicago and Mary T. Higgins b 1879 in Ireland - Daniel Cranston Jr. was the son of Daniel James Cranston born in 1847 in Montreal. There is another Hyde Park line of Cranstons living in Chicago at the same time whose brother Robert came from Montreal also (which is confusing) but so far I have found no relationship to our Cranstons descended from Daniel James Cranston and his father Joseph Cranston and Sara McLeod and the Chicago Hype Park Cranstons.
