He was the son of Joseph Cranston (Cranstoun)d. Ireland ? and died about 1860 from a sailing accident and Sarah McLeod b. ? Ireland and d. in Montreal about 1861-2. Montreal Catholic records-- "Daniel James Cranston (no siblings). He was the son of a Joseph Cranston who was a carpenter. - also found was a different Cranston bapt (James Cranston.) "24 Feb 1849 - Daniel James Cranston born about 5 months ago was baptised. Son of Joseph Cranston, carpenter & Sarah McLeod (his wife) of this Parish (Notre Dame de Montreal). God parents: Mathew Kelly & Mary Delahoide." Know of a Joseph Cranston and Sarah McLeod from Ireland who went to Canada before 1848?
