Cranston, 76, of Stow, died Sept. 8, 2007 at ECMC Hospital in Buffalo. He was born August 10, 1931 in Stockton, the son of the late Claude and Helen (Turk) Cranston. A graduate of Cassadaga Valley Central School, he served in the U.S. Army, stationed in Germany, before attending college. He earned his B.S. degree in civil engineering at the Indiana Institute of Technology before completing an M.S. degree in civil/sanitary engineering at Kansas University. His career took him to Woodbury, N.J., Kansas City, Mo, Buffalo, Penfield and Hornell, N.Y. After retiring from the N.Y. State Department of Health, he returned to Chautauqua County. In retirement he enjoyed antique tractors, gardening, carpentry and attending to the four walnut trees he started for nuts. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Barbara (Bernhard) Cranston, son of Kirk O. Cranston of Phelps, N.Y. and one brother, Kenneth Cranston of Brocton. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Melvin and Louis Cranston, and one sister, Lucille Blodgett. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the American Heart Association and the Kidney Fund.
