The 1881 census shows = Holstane James Cranstoun Head 41 Land Steward born Libberton Mary Ann Wife 36 Oldhamstocks Agnes 12 " James 8 Durisdeer Isabella 3 " David S 9 mths " Another daughter born in 1883/84 Death = Mary A Cranstoun, single, Hostel Matron, retired, died 4th November 1958 at 1hr am approx. Braeside, Dunsyre. Aged 74. Father - James Cranstoun, farmer, deceased. Mother - Mary Ann Smith. Death reported by Mary E Pattullo?? West Linton. Also - Death Mary Ann Cranstoun, married to James Cranstoun, farmer. Died 1st March 1890 at 4hrs 30am. aged 45. Father - David Smith, retired farmer. Mother Ann Thompson, deceased. Confirmation granted at Lanark 13th December 1923 to Mary Ann Smith Cranstoun, Little Silver, her sister. Will dated 16th October 1919 recorded at Lanark 10th December 1923 Value of estate £1,192.15/8d James Cranston, Farmer, Pathhead, Westfield and Neuck who died 14th February 1876 at Pathhead. Testate. Confirmation granted at Greenlaw to Agnes Hutchison or Cranston, Pathhead, James Cranston, Overseer, Holestane near Drumlanrig Castle and Robert Cranston, Pathhead, Executors.
