Author: ScottRCAnderson Surnames: Cranston Classification: queries Message Board: [2]Click here Message Board Post: Well, IMDB is wrong â Bryan Cranston's father Joseph L. Cranston was born in Illinois in 1924-1925 and raised in Chicago, according to the 1930 census (the IMDB reference to Iowa has disappeared :-). Joseph's father was Edward B. Cranston, also born in Illinois in 1896-1897. Edward's father was named James Daniel and was born in Montreal, Canada in 1849. Daniel's father was named Joseph Henry and was born around 1826 in Armagh, Ireland. From Canada he immigrated to the US and served in the Civil War, surviving that and dying in 1889 in a Dayton, OH soldier's home. No more information, unfortunately. But it turns out this is Pamela Cranston's family, and she provides further interesting details here that are in contradiction to some of what the TV program says: http://boards.ancestry.com/surnames.cranston/119.1.2/mb.ashx http://boards.ancestry.com/surnames.cranston/134.2.2.2/mb.ashx There are a number of other people who may see this message who have roots in Armagh, sometimes with the name of Joseph and James, but I believe they are later than 1826. This is also in the neighborhood of my family in eastern Tyrone, so there could be a connection there. But again I have no information on how they might be related. 3. [1]ancestry This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: ScottRCAnderson Surnames: Cranston Classification: queries Message Board: [2]Click here Message Board Post: The next regular episode of the television show "Who Do You Think You Are?", premiering Sunday, August 23, will feature actor Bryan Cranston ("Breaking Bad", "Malcolm in the Middle"): "Bryan Cranston's happy childhood shattered when his father abandoned the family when Bryan was just 11. Seeking answers, Bryan explores his paternal roots, finds a troubling pattern of desertion, a man of honor and an aunt he never even knew existed." It will be interesting to see if he connects into any of the lines we've discussed here in the past. IMDB says his father was another actor, Joseph Louis "Joe" Cranston, of Irish, German, and Austrian descent, born July 29, 1924 in Iowa. (Sounds a bit like my family but I can't place him.) The WDYTYA show should be online and repeated if you can't watch it as scheduled: http://www.tlc.com/tv-shows/who-do-you-think-you-are/what-not-to-wear-tv-sch edule/ Scott R. Ireland to northeast US about 1803, settled briefly in Maryland or Delaware and then on to Barnesville, Ohio (Guernsey County). I am descended from John Cranston, born about 1759 or 1760, in Monaghan according to some sources,, and came to US Also trying to make connection with his ancestors and when they settled in Ireland (during the Plantations?) or otherwise. Some information suggests his father was Rev. John Cranston, and grandfather was Andrew Cranston. He had several children who emigrated to the US Including Thomas who had a son named Wesley who had a son named Reuben Borton, (moved to Poweshiek Co, Iowa) who had a son James , who was my grandfather. My online searches so far have led to dead ends. Appreciate any information and happy to share what I have. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Daniel James Cranston was born in September 1847. His baptism in Montreal was Feb. 24, 1848 - son of Joseph Cranston and Sara McLeod which stated that he had been born 5 months previously. JOSEPH2 CRANSTON (CRANSTON1) was born Abt. 1818 ? in Ireland, and died 1860 in Canada. He married SARAH MCLEOD. She was born Abt. 1820 ? in Ireland or England or Scotland, and died 1861 ? in Canada. Notes for JOSEPH CRANSTON: This Cranston was born in Ireland and immigrated to Canada. He may possibly have been born in 1818 but this has not been confirmed. LDS Family Search: Joseph Cranston Male Birth: About 1818 Diocese Of Down And Connor And Dromore, Ulster Province, Ireland Civil Parish Roman Catholic Parish Earliest Date Of Records Location Killinchy Carrickmannan and Saintfield 1845 LC, NLI, UHF Montreal Canada Cranston Baptismal records from Notre Dame de Montreal, Canada 24 Feb 1849 - Daniel James Cranston born about 5 months ago was baptized . Son of Joseph Cranston, carpenter & Sarah McLeod (his wife) of this Parish (Notre Dame de Montreal). God parents: Mathew Kelly & Mary Delahoide. Joseph Cranstoun listed in the 1848 Montreal Directory. Joseph Cranstoun - only listed in 1848, pg. 64 (not listed in 1847) - he is a carpenter & lives at 52 St-Maurice St. (St. Antoinne Ward) - the dividing street in Montreal for East/West is St-Laurent St. - this Joseph is not found in subsequent years. There is a James Cranston listed in the Notre Dame Montreal Baptismal records and he may be a brother to Joseph Cranston but I have found no link between the two yet. Bernice Cranston b. 1902 was the daughter of Daniel J. Cranston Jr. born in Nov 1879 in Chicago and Mary T. Higgins b 1879 in Ireland - Daniel Cranston Jr. was the son of Daniel James Cranston born in 1847 in Montreal. There is another Hyde Park line of Cranstons living in Chicago at the same time whose brother Robert came from Montreal also (which is confusing) but so far I have found no relationship to our Cranstons descended from Daniel James Cranston and his father Joseph Cranston and Sara McLeod and the Chicago Hype Park Cranstons. 3. Hi, Does this fit in with anyone else’s family tree? On 18 March 1822, the baptism is recorded in Castlecomer of Elizabeth Cranston, daughter of Margaret (nee Jones) and John Cranston of Gurteen, Castlecomer in Reg 5 entry 95.Gurteen appears to be a hamlet to the west out of Castlecomer. However, I have also discovered a Gurteen further north in county Sligo. This is the first of three records I have of a John Cranston in Castlecomer, the last being the death of my ancestor in 1851, nearly 30 years later. If this were the same person, then our John would have been about 29 years at the time.
