I have been playing in Ancestry.com recently, based a lot on Bruce's work. I have not been in touch with him recently. I have come across links which I presume you may have seen that trace David Crampton/Crompton back through his father Richard Crompton way back to William deCrompton from Crompton Hall Lancashire in the 1400s.
