Perhaps this is one of John Craig's of Altoona, Wisconsin (1830 Ireland -- circa 1900; he had four children. He would be my great great great uncle. His brother William Craig is my link to Ireland, emigrating with family in 1847-48. We are not related to any of the Craigs-- except very distantly through the original emigration of Craigs out of Scotland to N. Ireland during plantation times (1600s) -- that came earlier into the South (1700s)-- NC, SC, VA, TN, KY etc. Perhaps this Midwest connection will pan out. It is worth noting that William and John did not get along. It is also likely that their father Francis Craig of Antrim (dying in Cork in 1847) may have had strife with his wife Nancy or Mary Ann McQuillen Craig. Craigs in Dunloy, Antrim tended to be Presbyterian (but some changed usually related to marriages) and Nancy was staunchly Catholic. One story is that their marriage was to solidify land holdings between Craigs and Nancy's brother or uncle or cousin. Also, the Presb. and Catholic farmers sometimes united against the Church of Ireland forces, as well as British rule of that troubled land. I say this, because it is not too likely that Nancy McQuillan would have had a strong relationship with her Craig in-laws; less likely to emigrate with them, or hook up in the states, if relatives should have emigrated also. Good luck to us both. Marybeth Shea College Park, MD 20740 (I have posted this to the Craig archives.) I have just the name as given on SS application. The son born in OH also lived in W VA, IN and MO. Yesterday I searched the archives of the Craig list, and found a 1997 post that included the full name--Maude Estella Craig. Can't think there are too many people with that exact name. Unfortunately, the one who posted no longer has same address (mcraig.at.csomstudent@csom.umn.edu). In that post, birth was 1873 in Fayette County OH and she died in Oklahoma in 1966. Following that info, I plugged in the first name Maude with b 1873 and d 1966, and SSDI showed a Maude Keeth. Again, a name I haven't seen before. Was looking for a possible second marriage to ?Groh. If any of these names are familiar, or anyone knows one who posted message in 1997, I would love to connect and correspond. Edie
