The stories in Rose and Bryan's "Pioneers of Missouri" were basically taken from area settlers while "visiting on their front porch". In other words, there is nothing proven about the family story. The only information that was usually correct was the listing of the current family, who they married, where they lived and where they had moved from. I got some dirty looks in the library when I read this Toliver story because I was laughing too loud. One theory was the story was spun to cover Toliver's illegitimacy. Rhonda
