I know of Craigo families in Uhrichsville & Dennison in Tuscarawas County, OH. I am sure they were Italian. I also have heard the derogatory name "White Trash" associated with them. I am sure this is due to the unwarranted discrimination against most Italians when they settled in the US. After all they spoke with an accent or didn't even know English. And they were those strange Catholics. And they made their own wine in an era when it was considered a sin to drink alcoholic beverages by many Puritanical main stream Protestant churches in the United States. They even had the audacity to work harder for less money than "real Americans", taking jobs from non-white trash. It was a term used by people who considered themselves better than others, even though there was little difference between them. Every group that came to the US was discriminated against. I wince a little every time I hear the term "Welch on a deal". I am sure this is a vestage of discrimination against my ancestors who came from Wales. I wonder if anyone else out there can verify that Crago is an Italian name. Regards, Jim Bailey Kinston, NC -----Original Message----- From: Douglas E.
