Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/4IQ.2ACEB/2363 Message Board Post: Looking for family of Mettlin Craig Sr. who lived in Decatur, Illinois. I believe Mettlin, a music teacher, was also in a Jazz band lead by my uncle Zackie Moore. Zackie Moore's band cut a recording in Chicago in 1927, and played in Havana Cuba in 1930. Most of their work was around the Decatur area, though. The name of the band performing"Blue River" on the Jazz Record was Zackie Moore and the Illinoisy Seven. It seemed to be an up and coming group and I wonder what stopped them. Zackie married my aunt much later, and I was born many years after that. Others in the band from Decatur were Clarence Ray, Clifford and Leslie Harkness, and Charles Morris. Dan De Nufas was from Peoria, Illinois. Others in the band who performed in Havana were R. B. Parkinson and Hipple Bennett of Amarilla, Texas; Harold Stoddard of Kalamazoo, Michigan; Kelsey Averill and Jerry Aldridgeof San Antonio, Texas; William Case of Forth Worth; and Gus Gilbert of Teshoma, Oklahoma. I would be interested in connecting with family of any of the above men to learn more regarding Zackie Moore's Band, Zackie Moore's Orchestra, and/or the Illinoisy Seven.
