Esther Montgomery Craig's father, James Montgomery, came from Augusta County, Virginia and moved to Washington County, Tennessee in about 1781. He later settled in Blount County, Tennessee where he died in about 1812. He was a son of John and Esther (Houston) Montgomery who both came from Northern Ireland, were married in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania in 1738, and settled in Augusta County, Virginia around 1740.
