William Valentine Craig was my grandfather and was born on Valentine's Day....about 1850-ish. I believe he lived in Birmingham Alabama. His wife was Mary Alice Wood. Her family settled in Sylacauga Alabama. I know he had brothers, but don't know who they were, or who his parents were. Mary Alice Wood had two sisters and a brother. Her grandmother's name was Sara Lucretia Applewhite and I have been told that this woman is Cherokee(I have a picture of her). I don't know who Mary Alice Wood's parents were. I have been told that the Scottish Craigs that came from North Carolina frequently married Cherokees. I'm trying to trace my history to establish Cherokee heritage....and also just for family records. I'm new to trying to find this geneology stuff and find myself running in circles! Help?
