Author: ErinEllieNata Surnames: Craig, Osborne Classification: cemetery Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.craig/4579/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hello all- This is of no relation to me whatsoever, but when you find an stone like this showing a migration from Kentucky back east to Connecticut in this time frame, you wonder if people aren't stuck looking for this guy with no clues. In the Wooster Cemetery in the heart of Danbury (Fairfield Co.) Connecticut near exits 5 and 6 off I-84 is a very large red stone memorial right on one of cemetery paths near the cemetery office. It reads -------------------------------------------------- [face 1] CRAIG Eld. Francis M. Craig >From Kentucky Died at Danbury May 28, 1848 Aged 33 Years Erected by his brethren of the Disciples Church as a tribute to his virtues as a Christian Minister and friend. [Face 2] Levi Osborne was a soldier in the American Revolution enlisting at the age of 16 years Lucy M. Osborne daughter of Levi and Miriam Osborne died February 6, 1908 aged 100 years [Face 3] Levi Osborne died March 8, 1850 aged 88 years Miriam Osborne died October 18, 1833 aged 68 years A testimonial of affection from their brethren of the Disciples Church Danbury of which they were the first members, the former an elder from the organization of the church to his death -------------------------------------------------- Note: I did see a number of family trees on Ancestry.com with Francis Craig stating he was of Mason County, Kentucky. These trees on Rootsweb WorldConnect all stated he was born in 1816 and died in 1849, which is contradictory to what is on the stone (I double checked). Many of these trees also have him marrying in 1824 and not producing children until 1846, which seems highly unlikely to me. Maybe the connectio n to Osborne above can help clarify whether it is the correct Francis Marion Craig, as there seem to be a few and possibly some bad links in these trees.
