I have a list of Blunston Licenses in early Pa. which contains a William Craig wonder if any Craig searcher has any info on that Wm Craig. See Wm Craig. The citation is as follows: INDEX of Blunston Licenses let in places West of the Susquehanna River, beginning 1733 ROUGH DRAFT, FOR STUDY ONLY, NOT FOR REFERENCE A separate file exists of brief descriptions of these Licenses, with some locations mentioned and the Acreage. Dates are also given in obscure ways, not always shown clearly, but are for a narrow time period about 1733-36. Some of the INDEX items were not readily found and the spellings, page numbers, etc have been derived from comparing both the INDEX and the individual listings. The pages of the listing and the Index are sometimes tattered and torn, obscuring some data. There may be individual records which are not in the Index and Index items for which an individual listing is not present. Some places were never occupied. It is possible that some of this was not copied from the microfilm or was not readable. Some of the material was in poor condition. It is necessary to follow-up on this DRAFT INDEX by checking off the individual listings and developing a list of variant records in both, if any. Some items were marked “No Survey” or “Deceased”, etc.and will be redlined later. Initially we were primarily interested in the Polk and Shelby items in the first list below. Besides this Blunston and Thomas Penn information, we obtained copies of sections of the Index to the Cumberland County Land Records for a later period. This paper does not deal with that. We did find Polk listings and through the land records, we will be able to get descriptions and plots of their places. Hopefully, we will be able to determine their neighbors and such, as well as their timing, as they, like the Helms, did go South. They showed up in NC in time to marry into the second generation in NC. So far we have not found any sign of any Helms. There were Craig families in the land records which I will deal with later. SPECIAL ROUGH DRAFT A Page 30 of this Proprietor’s papers is found: Beginning on sheet 30, “ Whereas sundry Germans and other persons settled within the Manor of Springehbury(sp)..... ....on land on the west side of the River Susquehanna, Thomas Penn in 1736 listed the persons granted permisssion to survey land there. There is a tattered and torn Index of these grants, and pages 30 through 34 of a seeming continuation of the Blunston Licenses, but Blunston was not the signer, Thomas Penn was. I believe that most if not all of these were Germans. The place is obscure, in the there is no such present place. This material is of poor quality; but, by moving from the index to the separate listings some sense was made of it. This second list is for the record. I do not see anything in it for us.
