    2. James, if you want to send the house picture in US to me, I will see that it is circulated to determine if any of the Craig fans recognizes it so that you can fix location in this country of your ancestors who came across. May be best to mail it to me, and I will get it into the CRAIG-LINKS publication, as well as try to E-mail it here in this country. My address is 715 Half Mile Branch Road, Crozet, Virginia 22932. If you know date of when your folks came, that may be important because house styles varied considerably as to time as well as to region. The newer styles, such as Georgian, Queen Ann, Federalist, Greek Revival, etc., appeared earlier in the more inhabited areas than upon the frontier, so any clues help. The frontier houses can be dated by whether the logs were round, or subjected to the broad ax; whether the floors were or puncheons; whether there are any sawn boards, etc. Likewise, windows tell a lot, because big panes (above about 10 inches) were not generally available until after our Civil war over here. Shipping was apparently the biggest problem, though manufacture played a part. Until the 20th century we had Chestnut trees, and many, if not most, of the log cabins and log houses (log cabins covered with clapboard) were of Chestnut, which is the single reason many of them still stand. I am at this moment typing from one which is 250 years old - aged by our standards in this country- and the logs are unbelievably hard. The worms cannot get into them. Daley Craig
