On the 1850 Benton County Tennessee census there are 3 Craig families: In house # 493 Charles Craig age 36 born TN farming Susan Craig age 23 born NC married in year In house # 497 Thomas Craig age 44 born TN miller Sara (Allen) age 37 born TN Martha age 11 born TN M. Elizabeth age 9 born TN Angeline age 6 born TN Charlotte age 1 born TN Susan Craig age 21 born in TN Thomas Craig was married before to an unknown Cottingham or Cunningham maybe and she is the mother of Martha and M. Elizabeth. M. Elizabeth was born in 1841 and Thomas Craig married Sara Allen in 1843. In house # 502 Eli Green Craig age 38 born in TN farming Martha (Groom) age 33 born in NC Susannah age 17 born in TN There is a big difference in age between Susannah and Charles - wonder if Eli had 2 wives or a child died Charles T. age 12 Nancy age 19 Lucinda (Cinda) age 8 Sarah age 5 Robert H. age 3 Green age 11/2 Elizabeth Groom age 23 born in TN They had another child after this census in 1853 named Martha Craig On the 1850 Carroll County Tennessee cenus right across the county line from Benton County TN in the same area was: Asa Craig age 31 born in TN farming Matilda G. (Lea) age 28 born in NC James G. age 10 born in IL Manerva E. age 7 Born in TN\ Letta J. age 5 Sarah E. age 4 William S. age 61/2 Does anyone recognize any of these folks as their Craig's? It is interesting that these men are all near the same age - wonder if they might have been brothers. Notice also that James G., son of Asa Craig was born in Illinois in 1840. If anyone has any information about any of these folks it would be greatly appreciated and I will share what I have with you also. I can't seem to get below 1850 with any surety.
