    1. [CRAIG-L] John Craig - PA - 1750-1800
    2. I am attempting to locate info on a John Craig, supposedly born in the "craig settlement" of Cumberland Co, PA (not the Craig "Irish" Settlement of Northampton Co.) sometime in the mid-1700's. This settlement was located in the area of the present-day Camp Hill, PA. He fought in the Rev War, joining Capt Hendricks' Company of the PA Rifle Battalion in July 1775. He was involved in the siege of Boston, and was part of the force that attacked Quebec with Benedict Arnold (and was NOT captured) on Decmber 31, 1775. After his company was disbanded (due to the loss of 75% of the company from death/capture), he joined the 2nd PA battallion as a 2nd Lt. He stayed w/the unit when it was reformed to the 3rd Pa Regt, Continental Line, as a 1st Lt. He later transferred to Moylan's 4th Pa dragoons as a Capt, and commanded a company of dragoons until the end of the war. He later married Elizabeth CRAIG, sister of Col Thomas Craig (my gggg-grandfather), through Thomas, the Elder, of the Craig Settlement, and had children. I am looking for any additional information, as I am involved in Rev War reenacting (is this carrying genealogy too far??!!), and my character is John Craig. Thanks in advance for any help.

    3. At first I thought your John CRAIG might be my long lost one, but it doesn't quite look like it is. My 3g grand father was James CRAIG, born 12 Apr 1801, probably in Crawford County, PA. He was married 26 Apr 1822 in Mercer County, PA, to Elizabeth HASTINGS. SUPPOSEDLY, and that is the key word as I have no proof, his father was a John CRAIG. There is a rumor that he served in the Rev. War under George Washington. Supposedly a lot of the lands in Crawford and Mercer Counties went to the veterans of that Ward. He was said to have gone to Sandy Creek in Mercer County in 1808, and his will was proved in 1814. His wife was supposedly named Rachel. We have no idea where or when John was born, nor do we know when or where he married. John CRAIG is probably a common enough name that there could be 2 who fought in the Rev. War. I don't think this is your John CRAIG, so I continue searching and hoping.
