(Doc) Cottle (Rip/12-2005) I have the following info, on my G-grandmother, Kathryn "Kate" Elam-Sublett's parents: Robt. Franklin Elam & Mary Craig etal... In Morgan Co., KY HH #0168/Census taken Aug 7, 1850 Craig, William - Farm Owner - Age 32 - b:KY *Abbott-Craig, Enfield - Wife/Keeps House/ 23 b:KY Craig, Henry - Son - Age 6 - b.Ky Craig, James - Son - Age 4 - b.Ky CRAIG, MARY - Dtr - Age 2 - b. Ky ___________________ Same Census - HH #0040 - Census taken July 30, 1850 Elam, Wm. H. /Farm Owner/ Age 30 b:VA/Marraige: 8 Oct 1840 *Easterling-Elam, Nancy /Wife/Keeps House/Age 23/b:Ky Elam Thomas - Son Age 8/b:VA ELAM, ROBERT - Son/Age 3/b:VA ____________________ I don't have what the astericks* meant for the women. He did say that the Craigs/Elams/Easterlings were "close". Mary Craig & Robt F. Elam married, had children... Per 1880 Census-W. Liberty, Morgan Co.,KY... Robt and Marry Elam - Farmer/Wife both 32 3 Daughters: Fannie (Frances)Age 13 KATE ELAM (My G-gmtr)Age 9 Ethel age 6 Last Census with Mary/Robt together. .................... During a search effort, I a Maxey family member gave me some info that Robt Elam married Serena Prichard (Cerena?) Later, a descendant of Robt/Serena's contacted me and said they hadn't been aware of Robt's previous family. According to my Grandmtr's family bible he died, July 21, 1904 and is buried in W.Liberty, Morgan, Ky. She has no dates for Mary Craig-Elam, just her name and on in a side bar, indicates that both are buried in W.Liberty. I have recently found some reason to think there was a link to the Lacy family with the Elams by marraige to one of Kate's sisters..Fannie, I believe. (Not definate, but apparently)___________________________ Kate & Ben O. Sublett moved to OT (Pawnee/NE OK/both died in the 1940's/buried in Hallett, Pawnee, Okla) He descended from the Huguenot Sublett's, of the 2 VA Colonies and I believe the Elams may have been somehow connected from back in those times, also. Apparently the Elams/Subletts/Gardners(Ben's line)etal went to settle Indiana/Ill and then returned to Ky, (they'd been in Floyd/Carter/Bath Co's in Ky, previously) and settled in the Morgan/Magoffin/Breathitt Co., area, until Ben decided to pack up his family and leave the Morgan Co., Ky homestead, high & dry, to go Westward Ho...why, I don't know., my grandmother was a teenager and was anxious to see what might lay beyond the Ky hills. They had hard rock candy on that train the families took from Ky to Ok, which correlates with other families who also took it. Maybe some other of Kate's/Ben's folks went too..? I find their surnames all over the Ark/La/Tex area and Oklahoma, as well as Missouri., but, not many know how! they're related. (Nickels, Williams & Arnett are collateral names that seem to have gone west, also, from around Salyersville, Magoffin, KY.) I had been discussing the early pioneers with Doc when he passed away, suddenly. He'd been in contact with a Diane/Dianna Gilliam, I believe, who knew more on my line and I'd really like to make contact with anyone who may have taken up these transcriptions, if they might read this. (There's also Perry/Oakley/McGuire/Fords others, in my lines around that area) Many share links to one another, including the Raison/Young/Mavity/Miller/Moores etal..VA/Ky, who share a common background, of early KYOVA settlers.
