There were three (or more) groups of CRAIGs in SW VA by the end of the RevWar. Two family heads were named Robert CRAIG; both were in Washington Co/Abingdon area; were militia captains; had a passle of kids. My Robert's son James Whitehill CRAIG, b. 1768 PA, d. 1846 TN (?) m. Rebecca RUSSELL (by unproven legend, Russell Co VA was named after her family). This Robert's daughter, Amanda Patton CRAIG 1796-1856, m. James Chambers CRAIG. Again unproven, he allegedly took sick while campaigning with Andy Jackson in Alabama and/or Florida and d. in Huntsville AL in 1819 (whereupon Amanda returned to Abingdon, did not remarry and cared for her parents). Several of my CRAIG women married men heading for TN, amongst them the BERRYHILLs. I WISH this James you cite tied in, but surely would like to hear anything more anyone has on Tennessee CRAIGs, circa 1800-1820. John Craig ANDREWS
Greetings, My GG GF Andrew Craig, b. Hardeman Cnty ,TN 22 Mar 1820, d. Hardeman Cnty, TN 11 May 1863, buried Cypress Cemetery, near Middleton TN. His parents are thought to be James and Ermy ???
