The people seeking earlier generations for CRAIGs in Tennessee from about 1790 MAY be interested to know there several families of CRAIGs in southwestern Virginia (possibly related, but not so documented), the children of which largely moved on to/through Tennessee, if not Kentucky. Once in Tennessee, some stayed, but others pushed on further, to Alabama, Arkansas and Missouri. ONE of the CRAIG clusters was in Abingdon, Washington Co VA, where Robert CRAIG, formerly of Lancaster Co PA settled by 1787. (NOTE: There were at least THREE (3) Robert CRAIGs in the Abingdon area by that year! One moved on to KY by 1790-1972.) MY ancestor Robert CRAIG had a total of 15 children, by two wives. Several of the 15 at least passed through Tenn, from about 1800 on. The one with the biggest Tenn connection was his daug Mary, who m. William McLean BERRYHILL in 1808. He was by that date "from TN" and they settled in Columbia, county seat of Maury County. He was a merchant and judge there, but later moved into Nashville, and d. there in 1836. Other daughters married into SHUGART, MITCHELL, WATKINS, CLAPP, HAMILTON -- and one of those other CRAIG clusters! (The last was James Chambers CRAIG, whose father was Robert Chambers CRAIG -- "Robert CRAIG #3" and fought at Kings Mountain) The boys were: David, James Whitehill, Robert, William Denny (passed thr TN, d. in Ark) and John. Hope these names help someone.
