Greetings, I'm just joining the CRAIG list and wonder if anyone can help? James CRAIG (2 Feb 1804 - 25 Nov 1862) married Janet Hunter HOUSTOUN (6 Oct 1811-10 Sept 1893) on 16 Nov 1829 in Glasgow, Scotland by a Scotch Baptist pastor. His birth date is in a family bible but not his place of birth. On the LDS Scottish Church Records CD there is a James CRAIG born on this date which may be him. So James may have been born in Ardrossan, Ayr, Scotland to James CRAIG and Janet WORKMAN. Other children recorded of James CRAIG and Janet WORKMAN: John, Robert, Elizabeth, Jane, James (hopefully my ancestor), Archibald & Thomas. Janet Hunter HOUSTOUN or HOUSTON was probably a daughter of Peter HOUSTOUN and Ann BAIRD. The family has a memorial card for Peter HOUSTOUN. In 1839 they emigrated to South Australia with 5 children: Ann Baird (1831), James (1834), Robert (1835), Janet AKA Jessie (1837), Archibald (1839). In South Australia they had 7 more children: Jane (1842), Eliza (1844), James Houstoun (1845), Ellen (1847), Margaret (1849), Agnes (1851) and Mary (1853). Looking for further information on this family and on Ardrossan. Happy to share what I have.
