Author: wmadavis163 Surnames: CRAIG, LINDSAY Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.craig/4579.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: My information states that Francis Marion Craig died May 28, 1849 and was buried in Wooster Cemetery, Danbury, Connecticut. He was the son of John Craig and Catherine Pattie and the grandson of Rev. Lewis Craig, who led the Travelling Church and was the son of Taliaferro Craig. I have that Francis married Elizabeth Ann Lindsay on Feb 22, 1845 and they had two sons, David Lindsay Craig born in 1846, and Francis Fairfax Craig born in 1847. Francis died young but David had a large family and one of his descendants, James Dick Wilks, used to write me occassionally. I don't know of an Osborne connection. 1. [CRAIG] Elder Francis M. Craig of Kentucy dies in Connecticut
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: ErinEllieNata Surnames: Craig, Osborne Classification: cemetery Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.craig/4579/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hello all- This is of no relation to me whatsoever, but when you find an stone like this showing a migration from Kentucky back east to Connecticut in this time frame, you wonder if people aren't stuck looking for this guy with no clues. In the Wooster Cemetery in the heart of Danbury (Fairfield Co.) Connecticut near exits 5 and 6 off I-84 is a very large red stone memorial right on one of cemetery paths near the cemetery office. It reads -------------------------------------------------- [face 1] CRAIG Eld. Francis M. Craig >From Kentucky Died at Danbury May 28, 1848 Aged 33 Years Erected by his brethren of the Disciples Church as a tribute to his virtues as a Christian Minister and friend. [Face 2] Levi Osborne was a soldier in the American Revolution enlisting at the age of 16 years Lucy M. Osborne daughter of Levi and Miriam Osborne died February 6, 1908 aged 100 years [Face 3] Levi Osborne died March 8, 1850 aged 88 years Miriam Osborne died October 18, 1833 aged 68 years A testimonial of affection from their brethren of the Disciples Church Danbury of which they were the first members, the former an elder from the organization of the church to his death -------------------------------------------------- Note: I did see a number of family trees on Ancestry.com with Francis Craig stating he was of Mason County, Kentucky. These trees on Rootsweb WorldConnect all stated he was born in 1816 and died in 1849, which is contradictory to what is on the stone (I double checked). Many of these trees also have him marrying in 1824 and not producing children until 1846, which seems highly unlikely to me. Maybe the connectio n to Osborne above can help clarify whether it is the correct Francis Marion Craig, as there seem to be a few and possibly some bad links in these trees. Author: kellykelmc Surnames: Classification: marriage Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.craig/1106.1110.1188.1197.1.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hello, This could be a very long shot, but I wanted to see what you know about Alma Craig. My father was born to a Thomas Woodrow Heater, who may or may not have been married to his Mother Alma Heater. I cannot find anything on Alma Heater, thus have done many a search to find a picture in a "Craig family photo", in which she is listed as Alma Heater. However, it appares all the women were married with new last names and the men in the photo maintained the last name Craig. Which leads me to wonder if my Alma Heater was formerly Alma Craig. Alma Heater and Thomas Woodrow Heater gave my father up for adoption, their names came from my Father's adoption paperwork. Do any of these names or circumstances ring a bell? Your help is appreciated. Kelly McCormic Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 1. Re: [CRAIG] Ann Craige born 1820-1824 North Carolina
    2. Carole Johnson
    3. Laine, There is a strong possibility that your Ann is the brother of my James Craig. Unfortunately, I don't know who his parents were. According to census records, he was also born around 1824 in North Carolina. He married Susan Hopgood on Septebmer 11, 1845 in Cherokee County There is also a William Craig who lived in Pickens County around the same time frame that might also be connected. I have never seen anything regarding Ann before, so this is exciting news for me. James and Susan lived their lives in the corner where Pickens, Cherokee and Bartow Counties connect in the Salacoa valley. I believe that they are buried in unmarked graves at Pleasant Arbor Baptist Church in Cherokee County. I really believe that James and Ann must be siblings or cousins at least. Some of the names of Ann's children are repeated with James' children. I'd love to hear from you. Carole
