With that said -- exciting material. Is there any indication of the location of the author of that diary, James CRAIG, at the time it was written? Samuel's father was Thomas CRAIG b abt 1785 who married Mariah SAYLOR, supposedly in Hunterdon county NJ. Both Thomas and Mariah are buried in Bell Cemetery, Coles CO, IL, just across the border from Edgar Co, IL. Thomas died in 1836 and Mariah in 1845. I have seen a photocopy of a handwritten journal from 1804 - 1806 written by a James CRAIG that gives the following information: Andrew Craig was born November 26th 1772 John Craig was born December 13th 1774 Esther Craig was born February 8th 1777 Joseph Craig was born August 17th 1778 James Craig was born January 19th 1780 William Craig was born Aprile 14th 1783 Thomas Craig was born July 11th 1785 Elener Craig was born November 22th 1787 John Craig was born May 16th 1790 Martha Craig was born October 20th 1792 Sarah Craig was born May 12th 1796 Robert Craig was born November 23th 1798 William Craig departed this life September the .... on Sunday about 3 of the clock in the after noon in the fiftyeth year of his age 1806 his funerel was prepare to meete thy God the 4th chapter of amos and the 12 varse and the 17 some [psalm] was said that day Martha Craig departed this life february 20 1827 Aged 72 years 11 mnts William Craig departed this life September the 7th 1806 in the fiftyeth year of his age Martha Craig wife of William Craig departed this life february 20th 1827 aged 72 years 11 monts Martha Craig was born March 5th 1754 Elleor Craig Tookman Febury 24th 1810 in the 23th year of her age If what is given above can be documented, it would seem that Sarah CRAIG HOUSEL b 1795/96 was a sister to Thomas CRAIG b abt 1785 and their parents were a William Craig b abt 1756 and Martha b abt 1754. During a search effort, I a Maxey family member gave me some info that Robt Elam married Serena Prichard (Cerena?) Later, a descendant of Robt/Serena's contacted me and said they hadn't been aware of Robt's previous family. According to my Grandmtr's family bible he died, July 21, 1904 and is buried in W.Liberty, Morgan, Ky. She has no dates for Mary Craig-Elam, just her name and on in a side bar, indicates that both are buried in W.Liberty. I have recently found some reason to think there was a link to the Lacy family with the Elams by marraige to one of Kate's sisters..Fannie, I believe. (Not definate, but apparently)___________________________ Kate & Ben O. Sublett moved to OT (Pawnee/NE OK/both died in the 1940's/buried in Hallett, Pawnee, Okla) He descended from the Huguenot Sublett's, of the 2 VA Colonies and I believe the Elams may have been somehow connected from back in those times, also. Apparently the Elams/Subletts/Gardners(Ben's line)etal went to settle Indiana/Ill and then returned to Ky, (they'd been in Floyd/Carter/Bath Co's in Ky, previously) and settled in the Morgan/Magoffin/Breathitt Co., area, until Ben decided to pack up his family and leave the Morgan Co., Ky homestead, high & dry, to go Westward Ho...why, I don't know., my grandmother was a teenager and was anxious to see what might lay beyond the Ky hills. They had hard rock candy on that train the families took from Ky to Ok, which correlates with other families who also took it. Maybe some other of Kate's/Ben's folks went too..? I find their surnames all over the Ark/La/Tex area and Oklahoma, as well as Missouri., but, not many know how! they're related. (Nickels, Williams & Arnett are collateral names that seem to have gone west, also, from around Salyersville, Magoffin, KY.) I had been discussing the early pioneers with Doc when he passed away, suddenly. He'd been in contact with a Diane/Dianna Gilliam, I believe, who knew more on my line and I'd really like to make contact with anyone who may have taken up these transcriptions, if they might read this. (There's also Perry/Oakley/McGuire/Fords others, in my lines around that area) Many share links to one another, including the Raison/Young/Mavity/Miller/Moores etal..VA/Ky, who share a common background, of early KYOVA settlers.
