    3. It's a variation on a classic old sketch from vaudeville days. An otherwise normal man would hear a common word and it would set him off into an insane and elaborate diatribe: "SLOOOWLY I TURN, step by step, inch by inch, ..." I think you can catch it in an old Abbott & Costello movie -- or was it a Hope & Crosby Road picture. I remember sand. Road to Morocco? A & C in the Foreign Legion? I thought I might post my Parentage diatribe again, but I let it pass... At 05:14 PM 4/14/00 -0700, you wrote: > >Dear Bill, > > This too obtuse. 3. I am curious about your Craig links to the Glasgo area. Mt Craigs are from Abbey Renfrew Scotland aound 1750. My ancestor Thomas Craig was born 3/2/1754. He may be the son of John Craig and Margrat Anderson. I am not sure where this is located in Scotland. Any possible leads would be greatly appreciated. My Thomas Craig also emigrated to America prior to 1776 and fought in the American Revolution in Mass. He died in 1840. He was also married to Elizabeth Allen the dau. of Joseph Allen and Elizabeth Parsons of Northhampton MA. ----- Original Message ----- From: Glasgow Boy <duncan@mcintosh1943.freeserve.co.uk> To: <CRAIG-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, April 13, 2000 1:52 AM Subject: [CRAIG-L] Scottish Craigs > To be fair to Craig list I was offered to set up a team for Scottish based Craigs. 3. William and All, I really don't think Isaac came for KY, but then again, who knows, for I surely wasn't around then. Right now I am waiting for a copy of the Civil War records on Isaac Shelby "Shell" Craig. I was told that it states that his grandfather (gives no name) raised him, and that he never knew his parents, because they died when he was little. If my Isaac is the grandson of David Craig who is in the 1850 Census in Anderson Co, TN it shows listed as this David Craig age 55 TN Jane Craig age 55 VA Jane 18 TN Isaac Shelby 12 TN I am assuming this Isaac is my Issac. I am also assuming that the Shelby is a last name instead of a middle name. Boy I don't think I have ever done so much assuming! Can anyone tell me how I can get out of this assuming, and find some kind of facts. In the 1860 Census there is two David Craig's. I am not for certain which David Craig would be correct. #892/892 Craig, David 60 VA, Jane 58 VA, Lucy A 36 TN #893/893next household Craig, Jane 25 TN, John 8 TN, James 3 TN, Lucinda 10 TN #897/897 Craig, David 6? TN, Jane 60 TN, Jane 25 TN, Lucinda 8 TN, Elizabeth 4 TN, not named 9/12 TN As you can see nothing matches and everyone has the same names. Help! Janice ----- Original Message ----- From: William A. 1. Re: [CRAIG-L] Tennessee Craigs
    2. There were three (or more) groups of CRAIGs in SW VA by the end of the RevWar. Two family heads were named Robert CRAIG; both were in Washington Co/Abingdon area; were militia captains; had a passle of kids. My Robert's son James Whitehill CRAIG, b. 1768 PA, d. 1846 TN (?) m. Rebecca RUSSELL (by unproven legend, Russell Co VA was named after her family). This Robert's daughter, Amanda Patton CRAIG 1796-1856, m. James Chambers CRAIG. Again unproven, he allegedly took sick while campaigning with Andy Jackson in Alabama and/or Florida and d. in Huntsville AL in 1819 (whereupon Amanda returned to Abingdon, did not remarry and cared for her parents). Several of my CRAIG women married men heading for TN, amongst them the BERRYHILLs. I WISH this James you cite tied in, but surely would like to hear anything more anyone has on Tennessee CRAIGs, circa 1800-1820. John Craig ANDREWS
