I need to know how to prove birth dates when there were no birth certificates or records back in the 1700s for DAR membership? Anyone else applied lately that knows more about how to do this?

I delete the entire message. However as you can see by the above message I was able to delete just the footer after I hit reply and the message was in my mail form. Maybe this can help someone else. My server is Tampabay.rr.com and it also deletes the whole message. Luckily I tried it on a message I was going to delete anyway. Barbara: I posted just a few minutes ago about this, and I use AOL. Copy and paste is the easiest way. Bud
I tried something different and it seems to work. (I am on AOL) Highlight what you do want to either send or print, then hit reply. You can then either send a note with only this information included or you can go to FILE and print what shows on this "reply" note. Seems like a little less work and you have something in a form to either print or send. What do you think? Diane
In a message dated 4/18/00 2:30:17 PM EST, edithray@whitemtns.com writes: << John, I followed your instructions and it deleted the entire message. Now what do you suggest? Edith >> I just copy and paste what I want onto a new message form. Or if I want to reply to a message and keep the message intact, I highlight just the message, then click on reply. That transfers the message only to the next message. After it has been copied or transferred to the next message, you can then go in and add or delete wherever you want to. Bud Caudle
The trick is that if you are replying, i.e., you are creating a NEW MESSAGE, you can make whatever deletions you want. Rather than make the deletions in the message you have received, make the deletions in the REPLY message you are sending. Lin Worked for me on THIS reply...
One good thing for DAR proof is to check if anyone else qualified under that name and see what that person used for proof. Ima ____________________________________________________________________ Get your own FREE, personal Netscape WebMail account today at http://webmail.netscape.com.
Folks...I am not a computer "person" but..... The techie on another list said to use this procedure:(i'm AOL) Highlight the entire message.......click reply..........then...highlight parts of message that you do not want to send......delete these, one section at a time, by using delete button. Then change address
I need to add a note about my last message. The Pennsylvania Dutch were not Dutch. They were German. The word "Dutch" as used in "Pennsylvania Dutch" is a corruption of the word "Deutsch", meaning German. When these Germans came over to this continent many English-speaking people, when they heard the word "Deutsch" spoken, incorrectly associated it with the word "Dutch". Many CRAIGS have a history of the term "Black Dutch" and this is why it is important. Someone wrote that a CRAIG descendant was BLACK DUTCH and referred to Holland (The Netherlands). The term "BLACK DUTCH" is an Americanism. It usually refers to a person of darker color than the average bear (I love Yogi). If you were to ask a German or Dutch individual in Europe what "BLACK DUTCH" means, they wouldn't know what you were talking about. It is a term that was developed in this country and has several meanings, but it often refers to someone who has Native-American roots or is associated with the Pennsylvania Dutch. The term is also associated with the Melungeons in the Appalachian Mountains and usually just refers to someone of mixed European and Native-American heritage. Ima J. Because I am also new at this I just figured it out. I couldn't delete it either. But what I can do is after I hit the reply button, then highlight footers and/or headers. I can then hit the cut button and it will disappear. Dear John: Edith Ray and I have the same problem. Eventhough I highlight ONLY the text beginning with "CRAIG Mailing List", the ENTIRE message is deleted. I even tried putting the cursor on the text at the end and backspacing or putting the cursor at the beginning and hitting the delete key going forward, but AOL throws up the "Are You Sure You Want to Delete This Message?" window every time. So my choice is all or nothing. This could be why so many of us are unintentionally sending all of this footer text along with our replies. Maybe someone on the List who has AOL has an answer. Thanks, Barbara
Dear Edith and Barbara, Jack Craig just brought to my attention that you might be using the delete button on the screen instead od the delete button on your keyboard. Is this the problem? Dear Edith, What program are you using. I have Eudora. Usually you delete whatever portion of the message you "highlight" (the part that turns black). John
