I have to agree with James Alexander Craig that some of the messages on this list are trivial and as he said, bickering. We probably ought to think a little more about queries and answers to help one another. I know I could not help you, James, as I am one of the orphan CRAIG families so often listed on here. I can go back to my 3g grandparents, James CRAIG and Elizabeth HASTINGS, in western Pennsylvania in the US, but there it ends. I don't know if we are Irish or Scottish, and there are a lot of things beyond that which are unknown. That is just my explanation about why I could not reply. I wish for your sake there had been more positive offers to help, but I can't speak for others on the list as to what they might have known, and the lack of responses just really might be because no one knew enough to help you. We are all still learning and searching. Ed Scriven
hello James Not computer literate enough to help with the photo.......but sure would send anything that was available to me that would help you....but I'm still an orphan Craig and so is my husband. My orphan James is in New Jersey... My husbands orphan Samuel...said to be from Dublin. Can't connect either of them to anyone.....WE ARE COUSINS>>>>>>> All Craigs on this list are cousins. If you ever get to Florida............. Mary Ann
Hello James: I, too, would be happy to see if I can find something out about your picture. I am a decendant of John Craig who married Rachel LaHue. At this point I have not gotten him back to Ireland, or anywhere else. We are considered orphans at this time. We find him in Va. and getting married around 1800 but cannot find where he comes from. Please send your photo in a jpeg format. Thank you. ----- Original Message ----- From: <JLCR3210@aol.com> To: <CRAIG-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, May 07, 2000 5:33 AM Subject: Re: [CRAIG-L] house > Hello........ > About a week ago , I sent an enquiry over to the Craig clan in > America..asking for help to identify...a photo of a house ..I had found in an > old trunk ..belonging to my g/father. > My I say..the responce I got was pathetic..........(I only got 2 replies.from > 2 very nice people..who were willing to check it out for me) > I live in Ireland and am willing to help anyone ..who enquires about their > Craig line, but I begin to wonder if the same applies to everyone else. > I seem to get more messages on my screen..when there is some childish > bickering going on...but when a geniuine enquiry is made by someone looking > for assistance...about the Craigs...........the responce is very small. > I am as interested as anyone to trace my Craig line.......and I think it > would more helpful ..if more people responded ..when someone is asking for > help. > Thanking you...........and take care..........JAMES ALEXANDER CRAIG > > N.IRELAND > > > ==== CRAIG Mailing List ==== > All material sent through Craig-L > is copyright 2000 by its original author > permission must be obtained from the original author > for the reuse of any text, "whole or in part". > Craig Genealogy Web Page > http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Meadows/9791 > > ============================== > The RootsWeb WorldConnect Project: > Tens of millions of individuals... and counting. > http://worldconnect.genealogy.rootsweb.com/ >
Good morning James, Yesterday I was cleaning out my attachment folder of "I LOVE YOU" virus messages and ran across a photo of a house. I don't recall the message it was attached to. I do remember your saying you were having trouble sending it. The house reminds me of the one my great grandparents lived in West Virginia. What can I do to help you? Regards, John
Hello........ About a week ago , I sent an enquiry over to the Craig clan in America..asking for help to identify...a photo of a house ..I had found in an old trunk ..belonging to my g/father. My I say..the responce I got was pathetic..........(I only got 2 replies.from 2 very nice people..who were willing to check it out for me) I live in Ireland and am willing to help anyone ..who enquires about their Craig line, but I begin to wonder if the same applies to everyone else. I seem to get more messages on my screen..when there is some childish bickering going on...but when a geniuine enquiry is made by someone looking for assistance...about the Craigs...........the responce is very small. I am as interested as anyone to trace my Craig line.......and I think it would more helpful ..if more people responded ..when someone is asking for help. Thanking you...........and take care..........JAMES ALEXANDER CRAIG N.IRELAND
I hope that I am one of the two nice people you referred to. I tried to open the attachment you sent, but the picture wouldn't appear even though the attachment reflected it was there. Please try to send it again--I will do everything I can for you, because I consider you to be a cousin. My CRAIGs came from Northern Ireland and it means a lot to me to be able to help another CRAIG. If you ever get to the U. S. you must let me know, because to miss the Appalachian Mountains where so many CRAIGs lived and died would be a shame. Send the picture again to me. My husband is home today and he is a computer expert of sorts and we will do everything we can to try to open the attachment. If it doesn't work, maybe he can think of a better way to send it. You are always welcome in my home, dear CRAIG cousin! Ima J. Stephens 316 Tracy Rd. Todd, North Carolina 28684 JLCR3210@aol.com wrote: Hello........ Thought I'd meantion one way I was lucky enough to find some incredible information about my G-Grandfather. George W. Craig of New Jersey. My Dad had a medal that had been presented to his Grandfather, we had no idea what it was for, when someone askesd about that MASONIC medal. I wrote to the Lodge in the area (Mt. Holly) in New Jersey and heard nothing. I then wrote the State organizatiuon in Ohio and they...forwarded my letter to the proper person in New Jersey. I eventually received a WONDERFUL letter..detailing information about George's experience in that organization....about his work life, his home address, his age at the time...many details. The discription of the medal, why it was presented, the meaning and history of it's use. BUT THE MOST WONDERFUL result of this was an enclosure of a 4X6 black and white PHOTOGRAPH of my G-Grandfather. I was able to show my Dad a photo of the Grandfather he barely remembered......what joy. Don't overlook any organization that your ancestor was part of......you absolutely never know what priceless gem may be uncovered Mary Ann Oh,......we learned that my father and I both received our eyes from this man... Left eye slightly larger than right. A nodule on our right ear as well. That tiny little bump on the top edge of our right ear has continued...my oldest son and his daughter both have one........
I know this is kind of LATE in the way of a reply to all the hubbub about the discussion on Craig characteristics, but, I think is great!!!! How many times I have wished soooooooo much I could have known my great grandpa Craig. Mom said he was kind of tall. I know he had a farm and later sold real estate in NE Ohio, but, that's not nearly as much as I would LIKE to know. Part of him, SOME part of him is in me, and I would like to know what part. I agree with the one who said, genealogy is more than a bunch of names and dates. Its a beautiful tapestry we are trying to recreate. I want more than names and dates. I long to have pictures, letters, anything which tells me about them as real living flesh and blood. Names and dates with nothing else is pretty boring. Pictures are exciting, however they are painted with words, descriptions, habits, etc. I would greatly appreciate folks being a little more tolerant of people's preferences on this list. We don't all have to be the same and have the same ideas. Let's be patient with each other and try to help each other rather than tear each other down. Sincerely, Melanie (Mullet) Shepherd

Not only delete it, but if you are using Outlook or Outlook Express, or any other email software that has a Deleted Items Folder, delete it from there too. Folks, it isn't pretty what it does to your computer. Here is information from Symatec's website about what this worm does. This worm sends itself to email addresses in the Microsoft Outlook address book. It spreads itself via mIRC and infects files on local and remote drives including files with the following extensions: .vbs, .vbe, .js, .jse, .css, .wsh, .sct, .hta, .jpg, .jpeg, .mp3, and .mp2. It also tries to download a password-stealing Trojan horse program from a Web site. Also known as: Lovebug BTW, if you have a Virus checker, go download the update -- McAfee and Norton both have added it to their websites. Nancy Welch searching Craig, Gray, Rogers, Eaton

There is a VERY serious virus out there....I Love you.... If you get an email that says I LOVE YOU .....DELETE IT....DO NOT open it. It has an exe. attachment....DO NOT open it. It has shut down the computer system at the Dept of Energy in Oakridge TN according to my daughter Becky. It has seriously hit Cornell U. It has hit many places......do not open it. It attatches itself and continuously sends out posts to everyone in your mail boxes and damages settings on your compluter. This virus does not love you.......Judy *********************************************************** cato@primary.net ***********************************************************
Hi Everyone, This virus is true. It is not a hoax. It can infect your computer, especially if you have Outlook Express. Before you open your mail check for any message with I LOVE YOU in the subject line. If you receive such messages do not open them, just delete them. Also, check your attacchment file and delete any that are there. I have received 23 of them so far today. It was announced first last night by Microsoft. My best, John
One need not contact West Point to get some data on the Robert CRAIG cited. There is a series published annually entitled "Register of Graduates, USMA" that gives thumbnail bios on all former cadets. Unfortunately, my oldest copy, 1988, only goes back to 1910! The Robert CRAIG cited is probably the same as Graduate #2134. The Class of 1910 begins with #4583. Anyone have ready access to a library that would have older editions, like from the 1960's maybe? I checking my stuff, I find a copy of a page from "The Historical Register of Officers of the Continental Army, 1775-1783", by Heitman, Wash DC 1893, and Isaac CRAIG is shown as "(Pa.) Served as Captain of marines in 1776; Captain 4th Continental Artillery, 3d March, 1777; Major, 7th October, 1781, and served to 17th June, 1783. (Died 14th June, 1826.)" Thomas CRAIG is "(Pa.). 2d Lieutenant of Thompson's Pennsylvania Rifle Regiment, 25th June 1775; Regimental Quartermaster, July to December, 1775; Captain 2d Pennsylvania Battalion, 5th January, 1776; Lieutenant-Colonel 29th September, 1776; Lieutentant-Colonel 3d Pennsylvania, Jan 1777, to rank from 29th September 1776; Colonel, 1st August, 1777; retired 1st January 1783. (Died 14th January, 1832.)" There are also THREE John CRAIGs from Pa listed...........
My mind seems to be wondering. One shouldn't have been sent at all, the other was only supposed to go the recipient. And none are related to the subject line (I don't think, there goes that mind again!) Janice
I was still unable to receive your picture. Sorry it took me so long in getting back to you. Have you tried sending it as an attachment, instead of inserting it? If you still have problems let me know.
