    1. [CRAIG-L] Jame's House
    2. Gary Craig
    3. James, Paula and others interested in the house picture. Some clues I noticed. 1. The circular front walk up to the house is not a common US type of entry off the street. 2. The house if very new. Notice the spindly trees planted along the street. 3. There is a small awning (or maybe a rolled up awning) along the porch openings 4. Notice the Roof line... a pyramidal shape with centrally balanced smaller roof above window sections. Very uncommon US arch. roofline ... If this picture was taken in the US ... it was in a developing area of fairly well folks ... with an ethnic architectural flair to the home design. .... Looks like pre WW2 but after autos were common (notice the curb) .... purely educated guess. I would vote for Wisconsin or Michigan part of the country ????? Gary D. Craig garygdc@worldnet.att.net

    3. Gary...I think the house is older than the curbing.....take a look at the shrubbery. The bushes next to the house are mature. The trees by the curb were probably planted new when the city put recent curbing in. The tree in the backyard is huge. The house architectural style looks past the heavy Victorian era....1900-1910. Does it look like it is covered with shake shingles to anyone else? If so, the house is probably not Midwestern, but more than likely Eastern States. Maybe as far west as PN. What do some of the rest of you think?....Judy *********************************************************** cato@primary.net ***********************************************************

I'm told by another Craig researcher (not on this "email") that they have seen a similar house in some of their old photographs. They aren't sure if it is in Pennsylvania or North Carolina, but maybe that will narrow your search from 50 states to two. They're still looking through their stuff, and I have another person to show it to who is in her mid-80's. Maybe she'll know. I'm supposed to get with her next week to go through old photographs and I printed the house to take along. 2. James: I got it. Not being versed in architecture I cannot tell where it could be located but I will ask around. How far back have you traced relatives in N. Ireland and what are their names. Have you ever run across an Oliver Craig? Being a political scientist I am also wondering how the peace attempt is going. Craig Grau

    3. I also did not reply regarding the picture of the house for the same reason many others have stated. We do not know that much about our Craig families to have pictures of them, let alone their houses. The most I have on my Craig families' homes are land records and a description of one homestead in Washington, but no photos. I could not begin to tell you how many nice people have helped me in my 14 years of research. I'll have to admit I've been very generous and helpful, too. I do not mind xeroxing, mailing and e-mailing items because it makes up for all those people who have done the same for me. However, I belong to other groups besides CRAIG-L, as do many of my researcher friends. We weave through our messages, weeding and sorting. If we answered every message in a group every time we didn't have something, the groups would be overflowing. An example of generosity to my family is this: my father-in-law is preparing for a trip to England where he will meet with an unrelated researcher who, with his wife, son-in-law and daughter have been gracious enough to take him on a tour of his father's childhood home. I have done the same for people traveling here. So, James, if you do not hear from us, it is because we have nothing to offer. If I knew anything you'd hear immediately.

    1. Re: [CRAIG-L] William Craig - help
    2. I believe this William Craig is the direct line of Deane and Mark Craig and Alan Zacher and myself (Craig Grau) who are or have been part of this list. That County also included what would later be Greenbriar and Monroe County, West Virginia. He had a fort there called Craig Fort or Craig Station. He is said to have died near Mt. Sterling, KY. An interview of his son is in the Draper Collection which tells about his going to the Battle. Craig Grau
