    2. Bonnie--- The Allen Co Pub Lib is in Ft Wayne, IN..........the northern 1/4 of the the state and probably 20 mi from the Ohio border. It is supposed to be a phenomenal place to do genealogical research. One of the persons who answered my query said it is 2nd to the LDS Lib in Salt Lake City, UT. Susan

    1. [CRAIG-L] Anna Cecelia Craig's brother Thomas
    2. I just sent this note privately to Bonnie ( a family connection made possible by Julie's generous postings!), but it looks like others might have an interest also... Nancy _______________ Yes, indeed, I know quite a bit about your James Craig and Mary Allison McCain Craig! I am a direct descendent from a son of James and his first wife Jane Ferguson. I found your Anna listed in the 1870 Census, Clarion Co, Toby Twp, Curlsville Post office. Roll 1326, page 672, if you want to look it up yourself. In this census James is 67, Mary is 46. The children listed in the house are: Harvey, 10; Thomas, 9; Samuel, 8; Charles, 6; Eva, 4; and Annie, 3. James had 10 children with his first wife, so there should be plenty of Craigs for us to find! If you go back to the 1860 Census (Clarion Roll 1095, page 313). It lists a McKean as a 5 month old baby. I think this is actually Harvey McCain Craig who was 10 in 1870. Also listed living in the house was a Rebecca McKain, who was 74. I imagine that this is Mary's mother. I'll have to dig up some of my Craig research and copy it for you. I'll copy the record of the story of William Craig, immigrant at the bottom of this e-mail. The brother James referred to is our common ancestor. Keep in touch, Nancy I have a photocopy of a hand typed letter that was written by Washington Craig, Sr. to his brother, James Craig, both sons of William Craig, immigrant. This copy is from the original letter, copied by George W. Craig and given to his daughter, Marie L. Craig, February 9, 1951. I received this photocopy from my grandmother, Lillian Nancy Craig Hamilton many years ago. In the Clarion Co, PA Historical society, there is a Craig genealogy which has a copy of the hand written letter. Here's the contents: "I received from my father's lips the following account, this 18th day of April, 1854. 'In the County of Antrim, my father lived three miles from Ballymoney (or Ballymena - the writing is not distinct). My father's name was James; my mother's name was Margaret Smith before marriage. When I left my father's home May 17, 1783, I had two brothers living: Alexander and John, Alexander having served in the Revolutionary War in the English Army, Quarter Master, and having returned home about the time I left, but I did not know it when I sailed for this country, Katherine having married to a man by the name of Dougherty before I left. My parents were all from Scotland. I was born October 17, 1761. Sailed for this county May 17, 1783 in the ship called by name "Ireland Volunteer" and landed in Philadelphia July 20, 1783. I, some years afterward, learned that my father and mother were both dead.' "The above is precisely my father gave the matter to me." We are all in the usual health, but Quincy (youngest brother of Washington and James), he being in much danger of going blind having the scrofula in the eyes. No more at present. Greenville (Limestone) Pa. 8/19/1854 (signed by) Washington Craig

    3. I have an email/URL problem .... if anyone has a solution I would appreciate hearing from you. The reason I ask is because I have received URLs from others in this list that have had the same problem ... (invalid URLs). A solution for this would help a number of us ....gdc I have a Data Base listed on RootsWeb for our family line ... However, anytime I try to email it to someone .... including folks on this list ... I copy and paste the URL in the body of the email .... it always comes out too long and the last part of the URL "=garygdc gets disconnected from the rest of the URL ... causing confusion and consternation when the highlighted URL is clicked on .... (it goes to a blank page) .... see the email example below to see what happens ... when it was pasted it was all together on one line... when received it splint across 2 lines and the last portion was disconnected. MAJ. ALBERT ANDERSON was born in Barren County, Ky., September 8, 1822, and is the fourth of seven children born to Joseph and Elizabeth (Terry) Anderson, both natives of the "Old Dominion;" the former of Albemarle, and the latter of Henry County. They were of Scotch-Irish and Welsh descent, respectively. Joseph Anderson was born June 11, 1778, and received an excellent English and scientific education in his native State. When a young man, in about 1800, he, in company with three of his brothers, immigrated to Metcalfe, then Barren County, Ky.; here he bought wild land and improved a farm upon which he resided until his death, June 30, 1864, in his eighty-fifth year. In early life he taught school for several years, and held various civil offices. He was also judge advocate of the Forty-fifth Regiment Kentucky Militia for over twenty years, and was a veteran of the war of 1812, serving under Gen. Hopkins in the Wabash campaign. In early life he was a member of the Baptist, afterward of the Christian Church, being a ruling elder of the latter for many years. His father, John Anderson, was a native of Edinburgh, Scotland. When a young man, about the middle of the last century, he immigrated to the colony of Virginia, where he remained most of his life. In his old age, however, he removed to Kentucky, where his death occurred in his ninetieth year. He met his wife, an Irish girl, on his way over from Scotland, and was married at New York. Thirteen children - eight sons and five daughters - were the fruit of this union. He received an excellent education in his native Scotland, and taught school for many years after his arrival in the colony of Virginia. He was also a veteran in the Continental Army during the Revolution. Mrs. Elizabeth Anderson departed this life July 5, 1845, in her forty-ninth year. She also was for many years a member of the Christian Church. Her father, Thomas Terry, was a native of Wales; he first immigrated to Virginia when a young man, and afterward came to Barren County, Ky., where he was among the pioneers. He was a pensioner of the Revolutionary war, having served under Gen. Washington through the entire struggle of seven years, and was one of that band of heroes who endured the rigors of that memorable winter at Valley Forge. He participated in the campaigns of New Jersey, New York and Virginia, and was present at the surrender of Lord Cornwallis, at Yorktown. Maj. Albert Anderson received a good English and scientific education in youth, mainly through the instructions of his father and uncles. He was mainly employed on his father's farm until he attained his majority, after which he taught school for seven consecutive years, and during this time was also quite extensively engaged in the tobacco trade, buying and shipping tobacco by flat-boat down the river to New Orleans. After he quit teaching he engaged in the tobacco business on a much larger scale, and traveled extensively over the United Sates for some seven or eight years visiting seventeen States and Territores. In about 1848 he returned to Barren County, Ky., where he engaged extensively in the real estate business, purchasing, among other lands, 535 acres in Hart county, upon which the town of Caverna, now Horse Cave, was afterward laid out. In 1850 he came to Horse Cave, built the first house in the place, and afterward, in a few years, sold $40,000 worth of town lots; here the Major has ever since resided. He has all his life taken a great interest and pride in military affairs, and is probably among the best posted men in the old military tactics to be found in the State, having been an officer in the State militia for the past twenty-five or thirty years, and having held commissions as lieutenant, captain, major, colonel and brigade inspector, serving as brigade inspector of the Twentieth Brigade Kentucky Militia, comprising the counties of Barren, Hart, Warren and Edmonson for six consecutive years under John M. Harlan, adjutant-general. During the latter part of the war with Mexico he helped to raise a company of which he was commissioned lieutenant. They tendered their services to the governor, but the war closed before they reached the front. Maj. Anderson was married, September 12, 1848, to Mrs. Louisa (Craig) Davis, a native of Barren County, Ky., born January 18, 1825, and is a daughter of John and Lydia (Smith) Craig, who were among the pioneers of southwestern Kentucky, and who removed with her to Warren County, when she was only three years old. Six children blessed this union, only three of whom are now living: Carrie, now Mrs. George D. Willis, Eliza Belle and James. Mrs. Louise Anderson died September 30, 1858. She was from early life a consistent member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

    1. Re: [CRAIG-L] Craig Bibles in the PERSI
    2. Susan; Glad someone answered your request. I had the pleasure of researching at Allen County Library many times during the year I worked in Ohio. It is a Library dedicated to Genealogy. Allen County Library generates the PERSI and you can buy the index on CD from them. I do have Version 2.0 with me if I can help. They are online for request but I don't have the address at my fingertip right now. The Allen County Library stays open 7 days a week from labor Day to Memorial day and is open on Holidays for us researchers during this time. During the summer they have regular library schedule as far as I know. MAy have changed during the past few years. It's suppose to be the best research facility after the LDS library in Utah i the USA. If you ever have the chance to go there you'll love it. Lonnie Jones
