    1. Re: [CRAIG-L] James Craig Walk in Edinburgh
    2. Bob Craig
    3. To All: The following comes from "Edinburgh From Old Picture Postcards" by Andrew Cranshaw telling about the James Craig referred to in Kay's message. "By the mid 18th century Edinburgh was recognised as being evercrowded, with a poor record of hygiene and health. A major development was required. Lord Provost Geroge Drummond (1687-1766) proposed the building of an entirely New Town to the north of the Old Town. James Craig, 22 years old, virtually unknown architect, drew up a prize winning design which was accepted in 1766. In 1767 construction of the New Town began. The Nor'Loch was partially drained and foundations were laid for the first North Bridge. The foundation stone for the bridge was laid by Lord Provost Drummond in 1763." More information about James Craig is found in "The Making of Classical Edinburgh" by A. J. Youngson. "He was a son of William Craig, merchant, of Edinburgh, and Mary, younger daughter of The Rev. Thomas Thomson of Ednam in Roxurghshire, a sister of the poet Thomson who wrote 'The Seasons'. There are some grounds for believing that Craig's grandfather was Robert Craig, College Treasurer in 1702, Merchant Councillor from 1704 to 1705, Commissioner of Royal Burghs in 1714 and Dean of Guild in 1714 and 1715." Also from the same source: "The fact is that Craig suddenly leapt into prominence in 1767 when his plan for the New Town was accepted. He was young; overnight, almost, he became comparatively famous; and for a few years he seems to have been will employed." This information came from the Edinburgh library when we visited there in 1993. 1. [CRAIG-L] One of Taliaferro's more unusual descendants
    2. William A. Davis
    3. Taliaferro Craig Jane Craig married John Sanders Nathanial Sanders Lewis Sanders Susan Gano Sanders married Lloyd Tevis Louise Tevis who married John W. Owen Breckinridge John C. Breckinridge John "Bunny" Breckinridge John "Bunny" Breckinridge was portrayed by Bill Murray in the movie ED WOOD. Bunny made his only movie appearance as the alien leader the infamous movie PLAN 9 FROM OUTER SPACE. Some info I found online: OBITUARY -- John `Bunny' Breckinridge John ``Bunny'' Breckinridge, an eccentric and troubled San Francisco millionaire who entertained grandly, served time in jail for vagrancy and was sued by his mother for lack of support, died Tuesday, November 5th, 1996 of heart failure in a Monterey nursing home. He was 94. Mr. Breckinridge, the great grandson of U.S. vice president John Breckinridge and of Wells Fargo Bank founder Lloyd Tevis, was born in Paris. He spent time at Eton College and Oxford University in England and at the Atascadero State Hospital for the criminally insane. He was known for his flamboyant lifestyle, outrageous comments and penchant for perfume and costume jewelry. He performed in Shakespearean plays in England before coming to San Francisco in the late 1920s. He married the daughter of a French countess in 1927. The couple was divorced in 1929. ``I was a little bit wild when I was young, darling, but I lived my life grandly,'' he said. In 1954, Mr. Breckinridge announced plans to travel to Denmark and undergo a sex-change operation. That same year, a San Francisco judge ordered him to make good on an earlier agreement and pay $8,500 a year to support his elderly, blind mother in England. The following year, he was arrested in a waterfront bar, charged with vagrancy and jailed. The charges were later dropped. In 1959, he was convicted on 10 counts of sex perversion for taking to Las Vegas two young boys who had been left in his care. He was committed to Atascadero and released the following year. He is survived by his daughter, Solange Prasad, of Oregon. A memorial service will be held on November 21 at 1 p.m. at the Little Chapel By-the-Sea, 65 Asilomar Ave., Pacific Grove. From an Ed Wood site: John "Bunny" Breckinridge (1902-1996) Best known through his friendship with Ed Wood and his appearance in Plan Nine from Outer Space, Breckinridge was a wealthy former Parisian entertainer who made headlines in the early 1950's when he announced his intention to go to Mexico City for a sex change operation and then marry his soon-to-be-divorced male secretary. The operation never took place. Strangely enough, Breckinridge at this time was a grandfather, and his daughter supported his decision to have the sex change. Watch his expressions closely in Plan Nine---lots of eye-rolling! 1. [CRAIG-L] Grant,Rogers.Bullock,Cookson,Ratliff,Craig
    2. My families Cherokee Blood lineage: Our earliest traceable ancestor so far is Ludovic Grant Born 1698 in Scotland, and died 1755, in Charleston South Carolina . Ludovic Grant was the Clan Chief of the Grant (also spelled Graunt) holdings in Scotland. After losing the the war in the Jacobite Rebellion,he was captured by the British and banished to the "New World". Ludovic arrived on the Savannah in the Carolinas and moved in with the Cherokees, his cousins all went to Boston and the Carribean. According to the Sir Alexander Cuming Journal of 1731, he with the aid of Ludovic Grant , convinced seven young Cherokees (Including future Chief Attakullakulla,The Little Carpenter) to visit England, and King George II. It was an attempt by the King to recruit the Cherokees to fight the French. In a statement recorded on page 301 of the Charlestown, South Carolina Probate Court , in the book of "1754-1758", in a sworn statement of January 12,1756, says"It is about 30 years since I went into the Cherokee Country where I have resided ever since, I speak their language". According to the Emmet Starr Journal of 1726, Ludovic Grant married an unknown woman of the Wolf Clan as his second wife. Ludovic Grant: Blood: Scottish. Christened April 12, 1702 Irvine Scotland. I am sure that I have found one sibling of Davids, whose name was (Francis) Scott Craig who married Margaret Miles. I do not have a lot of information on David but am willing to share what I have. Regards, Dorothy Victoria, Australia

    3. At first I thought your John CRAIG might be my long lost one, but it doesn't quite look like it is. My 3g grand father was James CRAIG, born 12 Apr 1801, probably in Crawford County, PA. He was married 26 Apr 1822 in Mercer County, PA, to Elizabeth HASTINGS. SUPPOSEDLY, and that is the key word as I have no proof, his father was a John CRAIG. There is a rumor that he served in the Rev. War under George Washington. Supposedly a lot of the lands in Crawford and Mercer Counties went to the veterans of that Ward. He was said to have gone to Sandy Creek in Mercer County in 1808, and his will was proved in 1814. His wife was supposedly named Rachel. We have no idea where or when John was born, nor do we know when or where he married. John CRAIG is probably a common enough name that there could be 2 who fought in the Rev. War. I don't think this is your John CRAIG, so I continue searching and hoping. 2. >From THE BLUEGRASS HISTORIAN, INAUGURAL ISSUE, author unknown: 10 Ways You Know You're Taking Genealogy Too Seriously: 10. You decided to take a two-week break from genealogy and the U.S, Post Office immediately laid off 150 employees. 9. A magical genie appears and agrees to grant your any one wish, and you ask that the 1890 census be restored. 8. You plod merrily along "refining" your recently published family history, blissfully unaware that the number of errata pages now far exceeds the number of pages in your original publication. 7. You are the only person to show up at the cemetary research party witha shovel. 6. Out of respect for your best friend's reputation for honesty, you are willing to turn off that noisy surveillance camera while she reviews your 57 genealogical research notebooks. The armed security gueard however, will remain. 5. You were instrumental in having "non-genealogical use of the genealogy room copy machine" classified as a federal hate crime. 4. "A Loving Family" and "Financial Security" have moved up to second and third, respectively, on your list of life's goals, but still lag far behind "Owning My Own Microfilm Reader". 3. During an ice storm and power outage, you ignore the pleas of your shivering spouse and place your last quilt around that 1886 photograph of dear Uncle George. 2. To put the "final touches" on your genealogical research, you've asked all of your closest relatives to provide DNA samples. 1. Ed McMahon, several TV cameras and an envelope from Publishers Clearing House arrive at your front door on Super Bowl Sunday, and the first thing you say is "Are you related to the McMahons of Ohio?".
