I was born in Okfuskie County, specifically Okemah Oklahoma. The Renfroe family On my mothers side and Craig on my Fathers side, although My Craigs were predominately from around Braggs and Muscogee ok. My families Cherokee Blood lineage: Our earliest traceable ancestor so far is Ludovic Grant Born 1698 in Scotland, and died 1755, in Charleston South Carolina . Ludovic Grant was the Clan Chief of the Grant (also spelled Graunt) holdings in Scotland. After losing the the war in the Jacobite Rebellion,he was captured by the British and banished to the "New World". Ludovic arrived on the Savannah in the Carolinas and moved in with the Cherokees, his cousins all went to Boston and the Carribean. According to the Sir Alexander Cuming Journal of 1731, he with the aid of Ludovic Grant , convinced seven young Cherokees (Including future Chief Attakullakulla,The Little Carpenter) to visit England, and King George II. It was an attempt by the King to recruit the Cherokees to fight the French. In a statement recorded on page 301 of the Charlestown, South Carolina Probate Court , in the book of "1754-1758", in a sworn statement of January 12,1756, says"It is about 30 years since I went into the Cherokee Country where I have resided ever since, I speak their language". According to the Emmet Starr Journal of 1726, Ludovic Grant married an unknown woman of the Wolf Clan as his second wife. Ludovic Grant: Blood: Scottish. Christened April 12, 1702 Irvine Scotland. Emigrated (1) May 07,1716 from Scotland to the "New World". Emigrated (2) 1726, To the Cherokee Nation as an Indian Trader. Note: "Indian Countryman" of Cheoah. Occupation Fur Trader. There is a chapter of the American Daughters Of The Revolution name after her in Tennesee and there is a Descendants of Nancy Ward Association in Oklahoma. As a child she was called "Wild Rose". She was later called Nanye`hi. This means; One who is with the Nunnehi (Spirit People) .After being lost and having a vision of the Nunnehi helping her through the night. In 1755 she was given the title "Ghi hau" or Beloved Woman, for her heriocs in battle. During the batle of Taliwa against the creeks, she was chewing the bullets her husband Kingfisher was using. He was shot and killed . She picked up his rifle and joined the battle. Still in her teens and the widowed mother of two children, when vaulted into the high office of Chieftainess. They were marching West, and the Unaka (white) soldiers were behind them. They left behind a trail of corpses-the weak the sick who could not survive the journey". This drean proved to be Prophetic. On December 29, 1835, thirteen years after her death, a "Removal Treaty" was signed. the Cherokee called this journey the "Yunna-Da-Ult-Sun-Yi " The Trail Where They Cried. The Trail Of Tears. While on vacation in Midland last month I somehow got a copy of the 1935 marriage certificate for Robert W. Keeley and Mildred A. Crago. It does not belong to me, I am researching Craigs. If anyone on the Midland, Gratiot or Genesee county Michigan lists or anyone on the Craig surname list would like to have this copy no charge please send your postal address. Dear Freeda Sorry for the interruption.... Joseph Craig, Jr. married Mary Parker and their son Joseph P. (I don't know but I'm hoping it's Joseph Parker Craig) born August 03, 1810, married Lucinda Scearce, they had nine children. Their son, Allen Simeon Craig, born in 1848 married Sarah J. Wethers. Their son Frank A. Craig, born July 29, 1869, married Mollie Catherine Lowe September 15, 1890 in Pettis County MO and their son was Leo, born July 13, 1910. Leo married Eileen Nicholls and they had two sons, Dale and Vernon. Joseph P. is buried in Pettis county in the same graveyard as a bunch of my father's ancestors... small world... so I plan to go there this year. If you are at all in touch with Leo's children and grandchildren, I would really like to hear from them. My name is Mary Ellen - I'm a lawyer in Johnson county and my office number is 913-469-5300. My office manager screens my calls ferociously but if someone says he/she is a cousin, they're in.
Hi everyone, I saw this on Rootsweb.com: Date: Mon, 7 Aug 2000 14:48:16 EDT From: Slwh40@aol.com Subject: CRAIG( Fayette co IL to Wilson Co KS) Several CRAIGS left Fayette co IL for Wilson Co KS in the late 1850's. I would like to identify others that were in the party with Windsor CRAIG. They settled along the Verdigris river near what became Coyville Kansas. I am researching my fathers family. His father was Walter Harrison Craig (DOB 1892, DOD 7/11/1970) who was married once before he married my Grandmother whose name was Ada Ellen Check Craig (DOB 1896, DOD 6/8/1970). He had a daughter by his first marriage (wife's name unknown) the girl's name was Lucille Craig. My father was the 2nd child of Walter and Ada. His name was Walter Paul Craig (DOB 8/24/23, DOD 5/17/97) His older brother Leroy is living. One other brother Donald died in November 1992, another brother Eugene was killed and buried at sea in 1945, he was born in 1926. My father also had two sisters both still living Virginia and Lavonne. My family lived in the extreme corner of NW Arkansas, right on the Missouri border often referred to at Check's Corner. If any one is working on this line, please let me know. Thanks, Patty Craig Pianalto

The problem is he died in Oregon (where I live) and Oregon doesn't have death certificates past 1903. I have his civil war pension files where it tells where he was and when. I know sometime he was living with his father in PA as a small boy. Then it says he was born in NY. He left with the family from MO in 1886 to Oregon. Dear Friends & Cousins, I have made a promise to my deceased Great-Great Grandmother to make her family proud once more. You see my Great-Great Grandmother was Maude Craig born in Illinois. We are not sure where in Illinois because her birth was a true disgrace. Maude's Mother was a woman by the name of Belle B Craig. When Bell was 13 years old she gave birth to Maude. Shortly after that she abandoned the child into her Mother Jennie Anne (Barnett) Craig's arms. Maude did not have an easy life. She was working at a hotel in Mt. Sterling, Brown County, Illinois at the tender age of 17 when she met her husband George Hedrick. George loved her very much & fell in love with her at first sight. Their marriage license states that her parents were Belle Craig (which is BElle's Maiden name) & Lewis Craig who we are still not sure who he is. Belle would never discuss her Mother but did tell her children once her Mother's name was Belle Craig. One day a man came to Maude & George's home in Beardstown, Cass County, Ilinois. He told all the children that he was Maude's Father. When Maude came out she began to scream at him & told him never to come back. The children of Maude & George never saw this man again. Maude spent her entire life being embarrassed of who she was & where she had came from. I am doing my best to track down information on her family so that I can reach back into their roots & try to pull out a piece of information that Maude could be proud of. THE FOLLOWING ARE THE FACTS OF MAUDE & HER HERRITAGE THAT I HAVE. Maude was born in Illinois ABT 4-4-1887. She married George Hedrick 10-25-1905. Her Marriage License lists her parents Lewis Craig & Belle Craig. It also states she was born in Brown County Illinois. Belle B Craig (Maude's Mother) married J.L. Moore who was born in Marion Co. Missouri. His parents were John Moore & Lucinda Gray. She was married Feb. 9, 1893 this would have made Maude 5 at the time. Belle was going to be 20 on her next birthday She listed her parents as James Craig & Ann Barnett. At the time of their marriage they were both living in Clayton, Illinois which is either in Brown or Adams County. Belle's Father according to her Mother's Obituary was James Craig it is mispelled in the newspaper as CREIG. James Craig & Jennie Ann Barnett married Jan 17, 1868 but it doesn't state where. It also states in Jennie Ann's Obituary that she was born Feb 1, 1846. It states that James Craig died on Dec 25, 1884. Their children are listed as James P. of Eagleville, MO, Belle B Moore, George F, & Alonzo of Browning. If you Can help me or think you can please write me. Also if you are interested in the entire Obituary of Jennie Ann Barnett, or the License of Belle B Craig, or any of the newspaper clippings I have found please write me. I need to make my Great Great Grandmother proud of her family before these terrible things happened that destroyed her family & caused her to feel shame all of her life. She was a wonderful woman from all that I have heard about her. Dear Wendy, Belle has a reason to be proud....and I am sure she IS proud.....of you!! ..........Judy *********************************************************** cato@primary.net ***********************************************************
Hi Everyone: I am searching for any information about Henry Everett Craig, born 1888 in Bethany, Moultrie County, Il. He married Lilly Fern Colclasure on March 7, 1907 in Farina, Ill and died in 1920 of the flu leaving a widow and five children: Martha, John, Arkell, Shirley and my mother, Ina Mae. On legal documents after his death his parents were listed as John Craig, Moultrie County and Maurine Parks of Marion, Ill. From that spot on everything is a brick wall. I have found several "John Craigs", but so far definately not the right one. Is there anyone out there who has these people in their family tree, could you please let me know? Thank You, Jean Haman jeenihaman@hotmail.com
Dear Deane: As a member of the Craig mailing list, I read your post about your Craig family. In it you mention that you had or know of some Craig's in Marion County. Perhaps you could help me, as I am really at a stone wall with this family. I am the grand daughter of Henry Everett Craig b 1880 d 1961. His death certificate says that his father (No first name) came from Moultrie County and married a Maurine Parks from Marion. Do you by any chance have these people in your family tree anywhere? Hi Everyone, I am looking for any information I can find on William K. Craig. I just received his death certificate and it didn't give me much more than I already knew. William was born Dec 10 1859 in PA and died Jan 6 1928 in E. McKeesport, Allegheny County, PA He is buried in Monogahela Cemetery in Braddock, PA along with his wife Amanda McCauley. Unknown Craig, born in PA and Adeline Porter, born in PA are listed as his parents. William was living on Broadway in E. McKeesport at the time of his death. He was a carpenter. The death certificate was signed by Leonard Craig of E. McKeesport. I know for certain William and Amanda had a daughter named Margaret Elizbeth born 10 Jul 1882 in Braddock, Allegheny County, PA. If any of these names sound familiar, please let me know.
