    2. My families Cherokee Blood lineage: Our earliest traceable ancestor so far is Ludovic Grant Born 1698 in Scotland, and died 1755, in Charleston South Carolina . Ludovic Grant was the Clan Chief of the Grant (also spelled Graunt) holdings in Scotland. After losing the the war in the Jacobite Rebellion,he was captured by the British and banished to the "New World". Ludovic arrived on the Savannah in the Carolinas and moved in with the Cherokees, his cousins all went to Boston and the Carribean. According to the Sir Alexander Cuming Journal of 1731, he with the aid of Ludovic Grant , convinced seven young Cherokees (Including future Chief Attakullakulla,The Little Carpenter) to visit England, and King George II. It was an attempt by the King to recruit the Cherokees to fight the French. In a statement recorded on page 301 of the Charlestown, South Carolina Probate Court , in the book of "1754-1758", in a sworn statement of January 12,1756, says"It is about 30 years since I went into the Cherokee Country where I have resided ever since, I speak their language". 2. Dick and Cassie Hill
    3. Hi- I have gotten a couple of responses about Thornton Craig, M.D. He is not in my lineage but I ran across part of a biography on him. If anyone is interested, I know where to send to get it. I do have a biography on Fred Craig, a prosperous farmer in Davisville (now Davis, Yolo County, California). He was born in New York but his parents died when quite young and he moved to Ohio to live with an uncle. He married Juliette A. Royce. The biography is in a book I have on Northern California published in 1891 and he was alive then. If anyone interested in Fred I can copy the biography. Judy Cato, somewhere I ran across a reference to Kitty Cox and it said her middle name was Sedgwick. Have you seen this? I can run it down it if you think it is promising. Cassie

    2. Jim; Only info so far is what is published in several places. The actual documents were last seen stored in a bank in Spartanburg SC. I have the obit for Joshua S.Craig who was the last known holder of the documents. I never made time to get the disposition of his property but the December 2, 1926 Laurens Adivsor had a pretty good description of his property dispersion. His two Brothers Samuel J. Craig of Ora and Niles A Craig of Greenwood and two sisters Isabelle E. and Elisabeth Craig of Ora. I'd be glad to mail a copy to you . Maybe, being a lawyer you may be able to get the probate report and find where the documents are. Where are you moving to?? I'm in Ohio now. Hope to retire next year and get to full time research on my ancestors. Let me know what you want. Did I send you the "Godfrey , a family of upstate SC", info. lonnie

    2. Lonnie: Sorry, that I have not written lately but it has been real busy around the office lately. In fact, I may be changing jobs and moving. I was just wondering have you found any information (documentation) that would confirm that our Craig family arrived on board the "Betty" in 1773? Unfortunately, I have not had much time to research lately. However, once everything settles down I will start hunting again. Thanks, James Craig
