Open reply concerning George W. Craig .... Our line has a George W. Craig born in 1852 in Anderson County, Kentucky to parents Lindsey (David Lindsey/Lindsay) Craig and Mary Jane Robertson .... what make this interesting is that David Lindsey was the son of William Craig and Peggy (Margaret) Waters/Walters. Sometime after 1813 William and family moved to Putnam County, Indiana and appeared to remain there until after the 1830 Census. We also find the Dorrells there, in Putnam County. However, by 1832, when his will was probated, William, Peggy and some of their children appear to have moved on to Paris, Edgar County, Illinois. William had land upon which there was a large mill that was mentioned in his will. Upon Williams death the family seemed to split and go in many directions, some had married and stayed in Indiana, some stayed in Illinois, others headed west to Mo and points west. A few returned to their prior home in Kentucky. Of key significance is the fact that Lindsey (David Lindsey) returned to Kentucky, since he is one of the forefathers of our line and his later marriage to Mary Jane Robertson is an important element in the way our family history plays out. One last note .... My grand father left his family in Kentucky and went to visit relatives in the general vicinity of St Louis, MO in the early 1920. We never been able to tie down who those relatives were .... and we have been unable to find the trail for most of the rest of Williams Children .... Hello Craig's!! I am stuck, and stuck bad. I am looking for the parents of George W. Craig, born in Kentucky on or about 1829. He moved to St. Louis, Mo where he died on or about 1905. His wife was Mary Huskey, born in St. Louis, Mo on or about 1837, died in St. Louis, Mo on or about 1916. Their son was George William Craig, born 1869, St. Louis, Mo and was married to May Elizabeth Guion, born 1875, St. Louis, Mo. Both of which later moved to Denver, Co. I have been stuck here for years, any help? Thanks a bunch! Bydand!
Donna and Margaret: Thanks so much for the prayers. They are working. The fires here in my area were contained about midnight last night without coming on into town. There have been a few hot spot flare ups today but not nearly as serious as yesterday. Eighteen homes were destroyed just on the outside of town. Fires across the state have destroyed at least 80 homes according to tonights news. A few blazes are still very bad. One in the Arbuckle Mountains in south central Oklahoma has burned more than 3000 acres and several homes there. God has protected life and limb though and no one in the state so far has been seriously hurt. Thanks again, so very much, for the prayers. Bud Caudle in Guthrie, Oklahoma

Gee Bud, more than 100 fires! Wow!!! In September 1970, my young son, my wife and I were living in San Diego County when the San Diego-Laguna Brush Fire, which started 30 miles away from our home, came into our neighborhood and burned our house completely to the ground. We barely escaped. We drove our two vehicles out of the area and I remembered at the last minute to throw a footlocker full of important papers and family pictures, including our wedding pictures, in one of the car's trunks. Other than these things we left with only the clothes we were wearing. Many other homes were lost. People were hurt and homeless. When we returned to the area it looked like a war zone. Looking at the complete ash rubble of once was our home, it hit me how quickly these things can happen, and, it sharpened my view of the most important things in life. Obviously, first and foremost, is human life. Second, I would say individual good health. Next, would be family. However, you can have life, including good health, but if you don't have family, you still don't have much of anything. Third, would be your personal and religious faith--the glue that binds. Fourth, would be your extended families, friends, community, country, and Mother Nature the world over. It takes kin, friendly help, "a village", your country(God Bless America!), and this fragile big blue marble that astronauts look back at from far out in space which, by the way, completely humbled them and they soon grasped the full understanding of the word 'home'. They also spoke words like: "you also see and realize that there really are no borders." Fires, and other tragic disasters, also have no borders. Fire has been a friend and a serious danger to man from our very beginnings. And, will probably be there at the end. In the mean time, asking for help in our prayers and dealing with such things everyday is unfortunately our cross to bear. I know I've gotten a little carried away here and I appreciate you letting me pull your ear for a while. I also wanted to mention the important 'material' things in life to save from fires, etc. They are: old family pictures, old family documents, old family hand-downs and mementoes. Every family historian knows, or should know, to remember these things. To me, these are the most valuable material things I possess. Everything else can be replaced. Enough said. Hi folks ... just wanted to let you know that we have made a couple of minor changes to our Craig family tree posting on WorldConnect/Rootsweb. We changed the birth place of one set of family ancestors from Rienbech, Germany to Waldenfischbach, Bavaria and made a slight change to the William Craig (son of Westley and grandson of Charles) / William Barie Craig (son-in-law of John Q Robertson)...based on the hard evidence or lack thereof ... we have consider list these two as separate and distinct folks. You can check it out at ... http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=garygdc Gary D. Craig garygdc@worldnet.att.net
Bud: I've forwarded this to everyone on my list. We don't live in Oklahoma, but I used to live where fires came within "heat" distance to our homes and I know what it is like. A wrong breeze and we'd have been wiped out. Our prayers are with you and your family and neighbors. You're on my prayer list. My Uncle E. F. (Ed) Craig, Jr. and first cousins James E. Craig and Anna Lou Kearby live in Pauls Valley. My dad, James T. Craig, Sr., was raised there. Are you related? It seems we are to be burned out. More than 100 serious fires across the state today. Right here, we haven't had a drop of rain in 52 days. The humidity is down to 10% to 15% and the wind is around 30 miles per hour. And being selfish, I ask especially for prayers for my own town of Guthrie. The fires are on the southern edge of town and heading for the city itself at this time. Another fire is very near my brother near Davis & Sulphur in southern Oklahoma. I am going to put this out to my entire address book, including the genealogy mailing lists, which I know I am not supposed to do. But this is very serious. If you are some of my relatives and living in Oklahoma anyhow, I'm sure you are already praying. I won't be on here much tonight, so I'm sending it to every one at one time. Bud, I am adding you to our prayer chain here in North Carolina. May God's blessings be with you and all those effected by this disaster You will be in our minds and hearts during this tragic time. Please keep us informed. Sincerely, Vickie
Margaret. Your state has had its share of fires too. I do hope and pray that you have no more of them. Thanks so much for the prayers. As far as I could tell from tonight's news, prayers are being answered quickly. Most have been contained. Here at Guthrie, the firefighters will be out all night working on hotspots and flareups. they're expecting the same tomorrow. 18 homes just to the south edge of our town of Guthrie were destroyed. Still waiting to hear from some of our friends who lived in that area. Thanks again. Bud

This information is taken from December 1, 1966 Wilson County Citizen~ "Commonly known as the Trimmel cemetery the land for the byrying ground was donated by Warren Greathouse and W. P. "Among the signers of the original petition for the formation of the county (Wilson) buried in the cememtery are several Craigs, Warren Greathouse, members of the Shannon family and very possibly others whose stones are missing or broken" "The petition to organize Wilson County was granted by Gov Carney in September, 1864 and the area included what is now Montgomery county and probably about two miles of what now is Woodson county.
