    1. [CRAIG-L] William Craig - Mountain Man & Location of Ft. Davy Crockett
    2. Deane O Craig
    3. To Bernice Klassen, CRAIG-L and FURTRAPPERS-MOUNTAINMEN-L lists: Just want to make a correction: Brown's Hole is located in Utah. More precisely, in the Northeast corner of Utah nearest the communities of Dutch John and Vernal, Utah. To the north of this area is Wyoming and to the east is Colorado. Additionally, should anyone want to know what a 'hole' is in the context of a place, it is a sheltered area usually surrounded by mountains that protect it from the harsh cold winds of winter. The best holes will always have water, wood, and game, if only nearby. Native North American Indians for eons used holes to winter in for the tribe or hunting parties. Using the ways of the indians, the mountain men and others, also used such holes for such wintering, etc. Also, they were used for rendezvous of hunting and trapping parties. Thus, the most famous, Pierre's Hole, was used several times for the Great American Fur Trapping Rendezvous' which William Craig knew very well! In more recent history, Brown's Hole was often used as hangout and hideout of Butch Cassidy, the Sundance Kid, and the Hole-In-Wall Gang. Lastly, regarding Ft. Davy Crockett, it was very small compared to some other fur trapping and trading forts. However, it was partly owned by William Craig and documentation indicates that the famous Kit Carson one winter hunted for the fort. Is it possible to write to the insurance company to get past relatives information? Do they even allow such a thing? If anyone could shed some light for me on this subject, I would appreciate it. 1. [CRAIG-L] William Craig of Pa/NJ/Illinois
    2. PattyFritz s StJoachimschool
    3. Jackie, I think I might be looking for the same Craig line as you are. James Craig lived in New Jersey, and some of his children lived in Pa. and illinois. I have not been able to find out who James Craig father was. Patty ________________________________________________________________ YOU'RE PAYING TOO MUCH FOR THE INTERNET! 1. Re: [CRAIG-L] Wm Craig - Mountain Man .......an explanation letter to Craig Links
    2. Bernice Klassen
    3. Hi again Daley: Nice that you responded to me again. That was the main reason why I put my resonse to Jonathan through the Craig forum. I had been corresponding with about 4 or 5 of you fellows, with the old address. I didn't like my handle I had on Yahoo, so had to change that to something more appropriate. Also, my husband and I are snowbirds and my home address is only temporary and always changing. I had to figure out how to do it so I could continue getting the Craig Links mail without having to unsubscribe and resubscribe every time we travelled. I believe I have it ironed out now and thus the letter to Jonathan put into Craig Links, so all of you that I had been corresponding with could find me again. I have been watching the letters come in all year now and nothing was as promising as what Jonathan's letter had been. It got the adrenalin flowing again, because like my letter said.... I have 5 zip cartridges filled with information on Wm and family and his adventures, but still can't make a connection from my Henricus Craig (of which I have complete documentation) to Joe Craig. (my brick wall). I was getting a little bored and frustrated not being able to find any connection. My year round address now will be surfinamma@yahoo.com so anyone can reach me there if need be. All the Best to all you fellow researchers.... As always.... Bernice --- DaleyCraig@cs.com wrote: > Bernice, thanks for including all in your answer to > Jonathan.
